The creator of the PS2 EyeToy, Richard Marks, has just taken to the stage at Sony’s E3 press conference to reveal a PS3 motion controller.
It doesn’t have an official name yet, other than "motion controller," but it looks to be a lot more innovative than its name. We’ll have some pics shortly, but to give you an idea, the prototype of the motion controller looks to measure around 6 inches long and has a glowing sphere on the end and buttons down the side.
Marks claims that the controller "surpasses anything on the market now and will offer a completely new set of experiences." The motion controller will have internal motion sensors, true 1-to-1 tracking and true 3D pointing.
On stage, Mark demonstrated that the controller can be used for the likes of throwing fireballs in RPGs, as well as in sports games (golf club, tennis racket etc.) Sony says that it wants to aim for the hardcore games market as well as casual gamers with its new gadget, so we can expect to be able to use the controller as a sword, whip and a gun. "Imagine being able to use Ratchet’s weapons yourself, " said Marks.
We’ll have some pictures and more details on the controller shortly.
