PS3 to catch up to Wii by 2011?

While the PlayStation 3 is continuously battling through this holiday season to gain step on the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, an analyst has predicted this struggle to be short-lived.
Currently the PS3 in worldwide sales sits uncomfortably in 3rd place while the Xbox 360 garners 2nd and the Wii 1st. However, analyst studies forecast the PS3 to surpass the Xbox 360 by 2011, and run up along the heels of the Wii in worldwide dominance.
The study shows that by 2011, the Wii will have 75 million units sold worldwide with the PS3 following closely behind. The Xbox 360 is expected to hit 40 million during the same period. Even though 2011 is a ways of, one must not ignore the importance of 2008 for the PS3 as it is considered to be the breakout year for the console.
While the Wii already dropped its major titles such as Mario, Zelda, and Metroid and the 360 already releasing Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Halo 3, 2008 with games such as Final Fantasy 13, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, Little Big Planet, and Home; the PS3 success could come at an even more increased rate.
All is not over for the PlayStation as it has barely even started.

2k8 better be the year of the PS! So long as the biggest games stay exclusive or atleast released at the same time as it's rivals...it should be a very promising year for PS3 all year long!

This article was on N4g by that time nitendo will be releasing another console, and the article says the ps3 will catch up with the xbox 360 by 2010 and by that time ms will be launching xbox 720, because they move on quite quickly but leaving the ps3 outdated, i hope the ps3 can catch the xbox 360 much quicker or otherwise ps3 will be left with ports.

it just goes to show you how short sighted and easily swayed our society has come to. 250 bucks to swing my arm around for fun? ive never liked the wii and it still amazes me how it still does this well. everyone i know that has had the wii grew bored within a month, and who was there tellin them i told you so?

lol... son of Wii and 360 will be out by then!! I hope Sony aren't banking on the PS3 lasting that long, imagine how outdated it'd be by then... In the near future there's already USB 3.0, 3D capable BluRay..etc..etc. With PS3 specs already on the table, the others won't be launching inferior products.

Once again another useless and unitneresting article... and also i hope it comes to the attention of some people that post here that sony never does a console without thinking about it's minimum duration on the market, which means that the console will have at least a 3 year lifespan, and that if MS wishes to continue neck to neck in this console war they will have to either surrender to the blu.ray format which is highly unlikely or come up with some sort of gizmo better than blue ray which is hardly believable at this time, and more I still prefer to spend my bucks on a new pc than in a 360...so i'd keep my panths on if were you, cause the ps3 is here to stay and slay the competition....

Yeah, pretty stupid stuff. It amazes me that the Wii is so popular too. But then again, there are a whole bunch of people out there that think the only difference between the PS3 and Wii is the Wii mote. This article could have some truth to it though. The only way the PS3 can catch up a lot faster is if MGS4 is the best BY FAR in the series and almost perfect, Home becomes a huge success and it's as adicting as they want it to be, Killzone 2 is graphically beyond anything on any console and doesn't backfire on Sony and get average reviews just like the first one, Little Big Planet is off the charts and Sack Boy is the second coming of Mario, Final Fantasy XIII just needs to come out to do damage to the Wii and 360, Grand Turismo is pretty much the same way (doesn't really appeal to me though), Haze becomes the PS3's Halo 3, and Sony has a couple more AAA games under wraps. I also thought the Wii sales were gonna slow down after the "BIG" games came out for the PS3 and 360 but it doesn't look that way. I really hope the Wii burns out soon for the sake of all real gamers.

for god sake most people i know have no idea about the ps3 they think its over priced that its agems are over priced and that the wii is more fun becuase stupid people dont reliased its over hyped old technology you could only have fun playing at some one else house for a day. I continulsly get told by the xbox fanboys at my school that if you buy a ps3 then you cant get any games cas its too expensive i open up a catalog ASSASINS CREED IS CHEAPER ON THE PS3 AND PS3 IS ALMOST AS CHEAP AS AN XBOX OR A WII AND ITS GOT BLU RAY A BLU RAY PLAYER ON ITS OWN IS ABOUT DOUBLE THE PRICE GEEZ ALL SONY HAS TO DO IS COMBAT THE WII AND 360 MAKE PEOPLE RELIASE HOW MUCH BETTER IT IS RATHER THEN LET ALL THE FANBOYS CAUSE THEM TO BELIVE STUPID LIES

Guys alot of you are saying the ps3 wii surpass the will no way it might in 2011 and by then it will be to late , and the wii it's cheap the kids like it and all the once casual gamers of the ps2 have all adopted it, and you shout about nintendo and ms and most of the new members on xblive are ex ps2 gamers, sony has lost alot of it's customers through there own fault and who ever disagrees knows this is true, and for once sony has a good console the ps3 and it's driven most of it's customers away and according to sony the ps3 will BE AROUND FOR TEN YEARS.

Yes.The PS3's line up and major releases for the year 2008 are greater than those of the other consoles.360 has Gears Of War2 and Ninja Gaiden 2, and the Wii, well they seem to have given us their major hits already, what else do they have in store??Another Mario or Metroid?? If things remain the way they are ie the line ups for 2008, then the PS3 will most likely reach the expected success Sony has always wanted; taking its 1st position for this new generation of consoles. So 360 and Wii watch out you will soon have to battle among yourselves for the second position.

nintendo will have to come out with another system before 2011 if they want to compete and microsoft will surely come out with another system to try and beat ps3, at least they can try. the era of ps3 is about to start

i think anybody who doesn't own a PS3 doesn't want a quality system. PS3 is a way better system then the xbox. PS has been around for 10yrs plus and its not going to stop...........

wii have games that i have played when i was a kid and im copleatly bored of all that , wii is the same games in diferent way played . but is cheap . if i were a child i buy a wii because is cheap but , for a person older than 14 years is stupid to play those games wii could have sold 80 million and ps3 70 but ps3 cost 3 times more or 2

I think PS3 will catch up to wii before that even though PS3 is far behind wii right now. Wii's games lack any replay value at all, trust me I own a wii and PS3. The only good games wii has are the ones only available to their console. Games that are on all 3 major consoles always end up way better on the PS3 and 360. Wii has already sold so many units so it is likely their sales will drop considerably especially since most of the older gamers will realize there is no value in their games and the motion controls are kinda childish. I think if PS3 uses its full power soon 360 gamers will start to consider to buy one. For example MAG is only achieveable on the PS3 and if they see your able to play with 256 players at once they will wanna buy a PS3. XBOX will be left in the dust if they don't obtain blu ray technology.
