PSN Video Store region locked

Those of you in North America may been enjoying the all new Video Store on your PS3s, but as some of you may have discovered, no one outside that region can even have a look.

It appears as though the Video Store is completely invisible to those with a non-North American IP, which means even if you've set up that US account on your European PS3, you won't see a link to the downloadable movies and TV shows. Sure you may not be able to download anything anyway, because you need a valid US credit card, but unfortunately you won't be able to browse through what's on offer either.

Fortunately a Video Store should be heading to Europe in the future, but if the normal Store is anything to go by, we'll get everything months late and it'll be more expensive. Hooray for Europe.

Actually North America does not get the video store. NA is made up of three countries, Mexico, Canada, and U.S., And only one of those countries get the store.

metal gear solid will not be making it to xbox360. it makes no sense, if this is really the last of the series. all previous mgs's were exclusives, to offer only one , the final one to xbox is a waste of time.  to stay on topic, im surprised its only usa. wheres the money in that?!?!? think sony think

Wow, man. What can I say? It sucks for those guys. I'd just lik to say I'm sorry and I hope you stick around for the goodness once you get it. EU gamers saved the PS3 internationally (yeah, I noticed that), yet are the last to be treated well. I wouldn't blame them if they bolted. Does the X360 have downloadable videos in th EU?

    • 6:41pm BST - July 16th, 2008

The movie studios would never let the videos be region free, they make too much money jacking up the prices for the European market.

But you guys have to understand. You cant really put full blame on Sony for this. Different countries have different rules and laws. Some countries, its longer and harder to get certain things approved for by the government so that they can release it to the public. Even Microsoft have trouble releasing all their demos and content worldwide at the same time.

I can understand why the Video store wouldn't be avaiable to Europe due to the whole NTSC and PAL conversion and also pricing... but Canada??? C'mon man our dollar is pretty much on par so I don't see what the big deal is. Hopefully soon!

I think Sony really dropped the ball on this one. It seems as though this is simply a rush job in retaliation for the big MS/Netflix deal. I've seen on other message boards regarding the reason why Sony didn't release this worldwide with people writing that "it isn't Sony's fault". It is completely Sony's fault. Other people are correctly stating that the reason is because of licensing agreements between countries. However, Sony is a multinational corporation with a global media distribution arm (Sony BMG), so Sony knows how to deal with international media markets. Also, Itunes currently distributes media downloads and video rentals internationally. So, my point being, Sony could have released the video "service" to all of its' customers had it done the work. Instead, Sony chose to alienate its' customers outside of the U.S. The video store is really a trivial matter, but every Ps3 customer paid money for their system and were ignored if they aren't a U.S. customer. I will continue to use my PS3, but if this is any indication as to how Sony plans on treating its' international customers in the future, I will be taking a pass on the PS4.

I'm sure for us Canadians it has got something to do with varying policies. As on their web-site, the policies conform to laws of U.S. and not Canada. Until that is sorted it out, I don't think Canada is getting a video store.

Yes it's annoying for Canada not to have this as we're part of NA! I put my money on the interfering broadcast tyrants that is the CRTC. And I won't be suprised if Rogers and Bell have something to do with it.

There are about 23 countries/territories in North America (wiki it). Only US got the video store. So this is not a North Amercian release.

Imagen the content were gonna get on the uk store;... Dads Army, last of the summer wine? lol it wouldnt surprise me. thats the classic section....then theres......eastenders, hollyoaks, coronation street. thats the entertainment sorted. seems pointless having downloadable tv shows when play tv comes out in a few weeks. u can record what you want on that.....for free
