Sony has confirmed that US retail chain Gamestop will not be stocking pre-paid PSN cards until some time in 2009.
According to Kotaku, a Gamestop employee received a note from Sony stating that the new POS upgrade was initially planned for this year, but has been pushed back until next year.
For the time being, PSN cards are only available at Pamida, Meijer and Speedway, with three new retail outlets being added in September. The three new stores that will be added include Riteaid, Blockbuster, and 7-Eleven.
However, we’re puzzled as to why Sony chose to go down this path, as opposed to distributing the cards to major retailers across country, such as Walmart and Best Buy. Surely this would have proven a far more efficient strategy?
Stay tuned for more on the situation as it breaks.

Their might be distribution issues with who ever makes the cards and ships them out not having the contacts to sell through to thse stores or possibly not be able to produce signifigant ammounts, but under that circ*mstance they'd be perfectly in their right to drop what ever contract they have with them and take the job to someone else because it's time these cards came out for people who can't or won't use credit cards online.
@ Post 1, if you don't care then WHY THE F**K ARE YOU POSTING?

I bet it is because they prefer a direct purchase via the PSN. They must give money to those stores... its ok if they don't lose too much... but if everyone has acces to those cards they will lose money... and they need to product them and everything that goes with that.

@1 - these are not "gamercards", these are pre-paid cards. Think iTunes cards and you're there. And Alpha pretty much summed up why they're a necessity. Concern over using credit cards or for underage individuals who can't get a credit card.
