PSU Feature: The Guns of Killzone 2

It will have been over four years since the release of the original Killzone when Killzone 2 hits retail shelves in February 2009. In that stretch of time, PlayStation owners have endured delay after delay in hopes of one day finally getting the opportunity to sit down with the highly anticipated title in order to take down one Helghast at a time. One of the key components to taking down this dastardly enemy of mankind is the weaponry you’ll be equipped with. We’ve taken the time to display the known weapons for Killzone 2.
First up is the standard issued ISA Assault Rifle. It won’t come as a shock if this ends up being your main weapon of combat throughout the game, but we’re hoping that this time around Guerilla Games gives us a little bit larger magazine clip to work with. Hopefully, as displayed below, that added clip of ammo will be used as an extra source of ammunition that will give you a quicker reload and more bullets to spray paint across the battlefield. We can also speculate that because of the green scope attachment, this Assault Rifle is also packaged with the grenade launcher much like the similar scope was packaged with that rifle in the original title.
This brings the Machine Gun up next, which happens to be looking like an altered version of the M249 SAW. While this option will come packed with more rounds at a faster rate, we’re sure the damage potential will be much lower than that of the Assault Rifle. Not to mention the recoil, if done realistically, should create a bit of inaccuracy in comparison as well. Though users will probably give up damage for a faster rate of fire, this would be your obvious second choice for your primary weapon.
A new addition to the Killzone Gun Club is the Revolver (Featured in Liberation, but not the original Killzone). Oddly, this handgun was left out of the original title from what we can gather, but found its way into the sequel. We’re hoping that the revolver just happens to punch a nice amount of damage behind that beautiful kickback. If we look at the revolver within other games, we can take delight in knowing what type of stopping power this little package can deliver. Here’s to hoping the Helghast are poorly prepared for its punch.
Below, you’ll notice a miscellaneous rifle that we’re not quite sure on what it could be. From what we gather, it is quite similar to the Assault Rifle/Shotgun combination from the original Killzone – minus the red scope. If this is the case, it’s good to know that this dual-purposed weapon will be made available to users in the game once more. This was by far our favorite weapon in Killzone and we’re glad it is potentially making its return. This gun is sure to be the most efficient not only in distance-based combat, but in close-quarters battle as well.
This little SMG-esque gun (A replica of the PP 19 Bizon SMG) is new to the franchise much like the Revolver. We’ve done our digging around and can’t find anything eerily similar to the style nor the design. We understand the game has undertaken a huge redesign since the original title, but it still leave zero resemblance like other guns we’ve mentioned already. Our best bet is this is just a standard two-handed SMG that will allow you to drop the Helghast to the floor in quick succession.
The Rocket Launcher looks like a real nice piece of work in Killzone 2. As shown below, we’re hoping this bad boy destroys as great as it looks. As in any game, the rocket launcher is used with no caution and only complete destruction is relevant. We can only imagine how the rag doll physics will send Helghast flying after taking a pill poppin’ from one of these bad boys.
The last type of Rifle displayed throughout the trailers thus far is the single-shot rifle below. This high-impact rifle is sure to do some damage no matter where it hits you. We're sure this will be the weapon of choice ... (continued on next page)

Im sticking with the helghast rifle shotgun combo. I hope this game does not have the same Ammo contraints the first did.

I agree with you adrienb3: Where is the demo? Couldnt they at least release the demo they showed at E3-07? or maybe even the PS Day Demo...?
Come on GG! Im dying to see some high-res Helgast on my TV!

NOTE:Editor has revised the article reflecting my response......Severly dissapointing "feature" maybe if the writer could've done some quick research it wouldn't be so bad...
For starters, the "helghast assault rifle" (since we are not calling them by in game names which can be easliy seen on killzone.com) resembles the FAMAS assault rifle.
The SMG seen resembles the PP19 Bizon SMG.
The revolver was seen in Killzone Liberation.
There is also a single shot assault rifle seen in gameplay of the E3 '07 which this "feature" doesn't even take the time to mention.
Again take some care, research and time before writing.

They need to give us an online demo like COD4 had on the 360(not like Halo 3, where you had to BUY Crackdown to play!). But still, I did enjoy seeing some of the weapons.

(PSN - Maxkiller0 ) i don't care about the guns lol god this game looks good im no a fanboy or anything and i have played alot of FPS but this game has the most top Graphics i have ever seen watch the video and see for yourself man and if you say that this game has bad graphics i think you need a eye test or something anyhow what i do hope is the gameplay better be as good as the graphics if not then it just a other sh.it fps with good graphics.

That looks NOTHING like the FAMAS Assault Rifle...Give it another look man. Also, the SMG hardly resembles the PP 19 Bizon...Go ahead and place them side-by-side with one another via any google search picture you'd like. There are obvious differences between both of those comparisons you made.
Also, the Revolver was in Liberations, not the original Killzone title, which is what I was specifically talking about. As I pointed out several times.
Furthermore, that "Single-shot" Assault Rifle that you're referring to is the EXACT same Rifle as the FIRST mentioned in my feature...Take a still screen and compare the sides of the guns. They're identical.

- The Helghast Assault rifle (stA-52 LAR) is based off the FAMAS take a actual look at both rifles, the only diffrence is in Killzone it has a cylindrical magazine.

wow, this guy has never been on the army. The 249 SAW can be extremely accurate if the bipods are used, especially if the weapon is using anything more powerful than a 5.56. I understand im getting too technical and reading too much into it. But the first rifle looks like a M-4 configuration, with a bullpup design, which it would work in RL, but the problem is the cyclic rate of fire would be reduced. Anyway, this guy needs some weapon education.

Dubbed... I can give you the Bison from that angle -- I stand corrected. But I stand by my opinion on the FAMAS, I still don't feel those two guns remotely look like one another, I truly stand by my perspective on that one. I'd also like to know what this has to even do with what I wrote? The entire piece is speculation. I have no clue how you figure what these weapons resemble in real life (in your opinion) has to do with this feature at all.
I also still can't find in the E3 07 trailer where you're seeing that one-shot rifle. I've now watched it 8-10 times and still fail to see it. Can you screenshot that for me?

Ok that explains why I couldn't find it. Neither of those are the E3 '07 trailer. One is the demo being played by an IGN staff member and the other is from a GC.
I'll add in the One-Shotter at the end just for you buddy.

The ISA rifle was the best in the first game, but there was so little ammo for it. Had to use the Helghast rifle and the machine gun for most of the game.

Secondly the single shot rifle appears at 2:27-2:28 during the E3 trailer when the robed Helghast (shock trooper) is killed and he throws it tward the player....Another bit are the weapon names in order of appearance, M-82 (E3 with grenade launcher), M1 LMG Tyrant Chaingun, M3 revolver, stA-52 LAR, (SMG is unnamed as of yet), M404 MAW (medium anti-tank weapon), (single shot has been named by Seb "motherh" Downie but is buried in the ask the dev thread at PSU), M13 Semi-Auto shotgun....All of which can be found on Killzone.com under the intel section.

Solidus I think you didn't get the point of my resposes. My point isn't to say "ohh I haz firearmz knowledgez." It's rather if your writing an article on a subject try to do some research before posting, rather than going off of "what I thinkz." Also like I've said many times that all this information is readily and easly available to anyone who takes five minutes to look it up. Anywho the artice is now a bit more accurate so my work is done.
