Pachter: LBP delay to limit impact of October PS3 sales

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has said that he expects the delay of LittleBigPlanet to have a negative impact on the number of PlayStation 3’s sold last month, but feels the game will contribute to a spike in hardware sales for November.
“We estimate sell-through of 775,000 Wii, 325,000 Xbox 360 and 225,000 PS3 consoles,” said Pachter.
“Our console sell-through forecasts reflect our belief that supplies for Wii hardware increased again this month, with a portion of increased Wii production that started in July finally finding its way to retail in very late in September.
“Similarly, we believe that Xbox 360 demand increased after the September price cuts and October holiday bundles, with some market share gain likely over the PS3. We think that the delayed launch of Little Big Planet likely limited the impact of that game on hardware sales, but expect a spike in November.”
With NPD sales figures releasing later this week, we'll see just how close Pachter's estimates stand.

sad thing is i dont think lbp is enough. the only way ps3 will beat 360 this holiday is a price cut, and sadly thats not going to happen.

I hardly think that people will have been put off getting a PS3 altogether just because of small delay of a game. So October hardware sales will be lower, November sales will be higher. It's so obvious it's not even worth mentioning.
What is this "harm" that people are talking about? The game was delayed by a few days. DAYS. It took months and months of "delays" to get the game to where it is, so I fail to see what harm has been done. Do you really think that people who were going to get LBP, will suddenly not get it just because of this event? Right, whatever...
Fact is, news is news, and people will read into it just for the sake of publishing something. Fact is, LBP is nothing but good for the PS3.

I don't think it will have an impact, I mean if people will buy a PS3 for LBP they will buy it anyway (it's not like there's any other game out there on the 360/wii to compete with it). Maybe they won't buy the PS3 as quick as they would normally have but they will eventually buy it but I suppose that's why he said it might have an impact of OCTOBER sales.

The TV spots fail to show how awesome it is, plain and simple Sony still doesn't know how to market. If you want say children to buy this, u slap it on Saturday morning cartoons and show a bunch of wide eyed kids blown away with fun by playing it, then mention how they can make their own levels come to life and then tons of little buggers will be attacking their parents for a PS3 and the Wii will become what it was always meant to be: a boat anchor. Get with it Sony
