BIA: Hell's Highway 'Realism' trailerYesterday we reported that Paramount may drop HD DVD and side with Sony's Blu-ray technology, following the recent move by Time Warner, which has populated the news since before CES. However, it has since transpired that the company has no plans to abandon HD DVD and will continue to support the format.
Today Paramount made it clear just which format they are siding with, as a spokesperson for the company stated: "Paramount's current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format".
While it is good to hear some concrete news, this does full up speculation as to why exactly Paramount figures HD DVD to still have a shot at taking down Blu-ray. Possibilities point towards the company being paid off, while some believe the firm may already be working with Blu-ray under the table and have yet to announce as much.
The debate is in the air. We will keep you posted on any further developments.

Sticking with the HD-DVD format at this point is just plain stupid, if you ask me. Something has got to be going on behind closed doors...
They will switch eventually. We want UNIVERSAL!!!! Lets get Universal first!!!!!
This is a shame as Paramount have some good stuff, luckily they produced the Mission Impossible trilogy before they became HD DVD exclusive !
i want indiana jones
Something That I have always wondered; what mountain is at on the Paramount symbol? Is that supposed to be Everest ? (Just a thought).
Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!
It's just a case of being stubborn for the sake of it now. Clearly, Paramount execs are morons.
They're potentially going to encourage people to buy HD-DVD players, then when their deal expires in 2009, they're going to switch to Blu-ray (because let's face it, they'll have to), and tell everyone, "sorry folks, you'll need to buy all your films again on Blu-ray!"
My suggestion to the world: Hit them in the only place they feel it - their pockets. Don't buy a single Paramount movie on ANY format until they switch.
They don't want to get sued for breaking a contract, duh. I doubt this "escape clause" thing very seriously. Sounds made up. They signed a contract and they want to stick to it. They already said that at the end of the contract they would be back to supporting both.
I agree. They just have to wait til their contract expires.
what retards are they blind, can't they see the blue light. come to the light paramount
lol this is funny i think th think they can carry the format on their own LOL. anyways theyll jump, everyone is. I actually wasnt expecting almost everyone to drop them at the same time more of a gradual transition. HD-DVD is the titanic and everyone is jumping off
lol, "continue to support HD DVD" doesnt mean they are continue to support it "exclusively", it's just how they play around with words. Warner made a public statement back in Dec 07 about staying neutral, but we all know what happened... Whatever floats your boat paramount, work on your exit strategy and we will welcome you back any day to the blu side.
If Paramount believe (as many) that downloadable/streaming content will make hard media obselete anyway, why go through the cost of changing? Warner going with either format just cuts their cost in half.
Wow poor Paramount they are stuck between a rock and a hard place it sounds like.
Hmm....so that means no transformers on blu-ray. Come on Paramount, you're breaking my balls mac.....just release Transformers on bluray and we can call it even....somewhat lol
psn id: gingo... they say this now but everyone knows eventually they will come to blu ray becasue there will be no market for hd dvd
Take it to the Bank!
i have been boycotting Universal/Paramount ever since they went HDDVD exclusive. I have not and will not buy any of there DVD's or see any of their movies if the theatre. Also, i was considering buying a new tv in sept and everyone was saying how good this toshiba model was. well, i went out and spent $1000 more on a SONY Bravia instead.
Notice the term "current?" That's because they are still working on a few details.
of course they are going to keep with it, they only have another year left on their contract, then they get all the money that was promised to them. after that, it's fair game as to where they go, and my bet is straight to blu-ray, or at least dual format.
its contract related -within 6 months they be all about BLU-RAY
Damb it i really want scarface and the godfather on BLU RAY!!! just get out of the contract for god sake i mean even the transformer directer knows blu ray will win.
Doesn't Paramount have an contract with Toshiba, or I invented this? I think that if theydo have a contract, the day this contract ends, is the day we all go to the HD-DVD funeral...
HD DVD is a sucky name, I can see parents or grandparents buying little billy a HD DVD (because it has DVD in the name) wen billy only had a regulard DVD player. I dont think its possible to do that with blu ray.
Hey whats the big idea!
Why cant they make both formats? like game companys have to make games for ps3 xbox360 pc wii etc etc
talk about stupid, the absolute only reason they are staying with HD-DVD is because they were payed off because there is no moeny in staying with a failing if not already dead format.
Double post oop's
HD DVD died a few days ago, tsk tsk
ya good luck with that....
1 morte domino uni or paramount.... next 1 that falls in the blu ocean of amazing ness then comes the rest
Meh is it really a surprise? Fight to the bitter end.
Money under the table anyone?
This is just going to end badly on Paramounts part if they also get HD porn on blu-ray. Heck just about everyone that has a PS3/PSP has teh awesomeness of bullet wounds from resistence.
Just release Transformers on bluray and im hapy! I dont care for the other movies Paramount haves.
