Kojima Productions Associate Producer, Ryan Payton, has gone on record to state that he was misquoted in an article by Reuters last year regarding launch sales of the upcoming PlayStation 3 title, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
The article in question claimed that Payton had suggested that the game would have to sell one million copies at launch in an attempt to recover production costs.
However, speaking during a Bionic Commando podcast this week, Payton commented, "I wish I could send a message out to the whole world cause I hear about this all the time. It was a story from Reuters, so it was literally sent to every news source around the globe.”
“If you notice, in the news story, I have lots of quotes in there with quotation marks, but that part of the story isn't in quotation marks.”
“Number one, that million dollar figure is incorrect. I don't even know how many figures we'd need to sell to be profitable," he said.
"More importantly, that's not something you really talk about in an interview. It's nothing I'd ever say... I've been trying to contact Kemp Powers over at Reuters to see, I don't know if he recorded it on tape, but I'd love to hear it. So we can set the record straight,” added Payton.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is due out exclusively on PS3 in Q2 2008.

yes it did take him a long time. i hope it also goes gold very soon. and comes out so i can start playing it. i'm already excited about GTAIV that comes out this april
No matter what this game has potential for surpassing that in sales. In terms of covering development cost for a game this big must be even more. Again I think it really comes down to the first week having the most momentum in sales.
Easy Million. Just about everyone with a PS3 is going to get this game, and MGS4 will also be a huge selling point for anyone who has ever wanted to get a PS3.

@ hush404: PSU can't keep their game releases updated. They just changed Army of Two's release date a day or so ago, because it said already released for a while now.
