According to Internet reports, Sony Computer Entertainment will be launching its highly anticipated online virtual hub, PlayStation Home, across Japan in spring of 2008.

Reports come following the recent Tokyo Content Market 2007 symposium, where a Senior Producer at the company allegedly detailed plans to release the online service next spring, though an exact date has yet to be revealed.
As it stands, PlayStation Home is currently scheduled for a release in North America and Europe around the same time following its delay last month, pointing towards a possible simultaneous worldwide release.
Stay tuned for more information as it breaks.

I thought they said they were going to only let a slow stream of players in from the start. I doubt they have the server capacity to deal with millions of people first day.

Alot of people have been asking where information has been about Home, so this is very good news for us PS3 people.

@richkaos: Yes you would think they would be way past the Beta Testing by now; however, 'Home' is no simple software program and is multifaceted in it's complexity and abilities. This has to be done correctly the first time and I think they will release it as a worldwide release. I would rather they take their sweet time on this issue to initiate it correctly.
@Inferno: You would think that would be the case also... but for this to be successful there has to be a massive mainframe somewhere built just for this. The other possibility is that there will be different "townhalls" for different locations in the globe... Will be interesting to see how they handle this amount of data.
I personally can't wait even though I am on the shy side... but I just think this kind of interface with a "live"-like arena will be outstanding. Bring it on Sony....but make sure you get it right.

If it's not a worldwide release, I have a feeling there will be a tone more PSN accounts in Japan than actual PS3's.

It would make no sense to release an online service in one region and then leave the other region(s) hanging.A simultaneous release is the way to go for a service such as Home.
