Sony Computer Entertainment Asia (SCEA) intends to launch its PlayStation products in mainland China, China Daily reports.
This past Tuesday, SCEA signed a letter of intent to conduct training and research & development in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province. As well as localization of foreign games, SCEA plans to begin original PlayStation game development in China.
Sony is partnering with Guangdong Animation City (GAC), a company which plans to invest around 1.5 billion yuan ($227 million USD) in Sony’s China ventures.
Though Sony has yet to provide any official timetables for product launches in China, GAC Chairman Guo Jiening expects "related business" to top 100 billion yuan ($15.1 billion USD) annually in five years.
