It was disappointing to hear that Sony cut HD channel support from its upcoming twin-tuner Digital TV device, and doubly so when the promised DRM-free recordings failed to materialise. Unfortunately we’ve got another problem to add to the list today.
It seems that enabling the much-touted background-recording functionality brings up an on-screen prompt warning users of potential slowdown whilst playing PS3 games, a compromise we’re willing to bet not many of you will feel happy about.
Whilst no details have emerged as to the extent of slowdown that recording will cause, a prominent warning would suggest it would be noticeable at the least.
All of which is a shame, as the basic EPG and PVR facilities seem fantastically intuitive, and the more functionality packed into the PS3 the better. Hopefully future firmware updates will iron out the kinks.
