Activision has narrowed down a launch date for its upcoming open world extravaganza Prototype, confirming a June 2009 release for the ambitious project.
Word comes via a press release detailing the forthcoming New York Comic Con, in which the publisher states, "Hands-on – fans get their first chance to play the highly anticipated open-world/action thriller, PROTOTYPE, planned for release in June."
Due out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360, Prototype pits you in control of Alex Mercer, an individual who possesses the ability to consume his foes, gaining him access to their memories and experiences.
Mercer also has access to a variety of super-human abilities, including superior strength, speed, and dexterity, allowing him to out-run vehicles, run up the sides of buildings and jump extraordinarily long distances.

Doesn't this sort of conflict with the inFAMOUS release? I thought Prototype was supposed to be September-ish. I think that Prototype and inFAMOUS releasing in similar time frames would be bad in general. It could potentially hurt Prototype sales on the PS3, since people will have inFAMOUS as their "super hero" sandbox kind of game at the time. Unless of course they are trying to edge out inFAMOUS and attempting to snag a majority of the sales. That's a risky kind of move though, and you won't be making any developer friends that way.
Both games are along decently similar lines, though far from what we've been shown, I'm personally much more interested in inFAMOUS. Prototype looks nice, but I don't believe they will deliver the same comic-book kind of experience, or the same amount of immersiveness that inFAMOUS will. To add, the studio behind Prototype has not had the best development history ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radical_Entertainment ). They only have really 1 or 2 decent solid titles behind them, and a fair amount of mediocre or poor games. More or less, it seems to me that they will be taking a decent chunk of the game's base from "Hulk: Ultimate Destruction" (one of their previous titles) and applying it here with the "disguise and destroy" aspect.
It seems like it will be fun, and I am interested to see where it will go, but I just don't feel that same "holy crap that's awesome!" kind of feeling as inFAMOUS delivers. Either way, I believe I will get both titles release day, unless Prototype takes a nose-dive. I suppose only time will tell, and hopefully the two don't end up in direct competition for sales.

if prototype type end up coming out the same time as infamous then i feel prototype wont see the light of day on my console. if this game do end up coming out the same time its going to be interesting to see if PS3 owners will pick a port or a game that's built for PS3. mainly if they both score near the same Rating

Orgasm! Can't wait.
Prototype isn't supposed to be comic-book like so that argument fails. He is NOT a superhero. Just a guy with awesome powers looking to find out his past and is willing to cause a lot of destruction to achieve it.
Taking a "decent chunk" from their Ultimate Destruction is a great thing since it worked so well. Best superhero game to date and beyond.
Prototype will sell million regarless of how many PS3 owners buy it or not.
IMO, Prototype>>>>>>>>>>infamous.

Hulk1215, take it easy, I was stating my OPINION. I never said taking away from Hulk was a bad idea, I was only stating what I see them doing, but it seems you want to turn this into an arguement about Prototype being better than inFAMOUS. It's all good and fine if you want to be stoked for Prototype, but saying my arguement fails all because I vary my choices in likes and dislikes from your own, that's a completely wrong and pointless statement. If you want a different arguement from another angle, then personally I will take a PS3 exclusive from a well known company that has a good past, over a port from a company that has a very mediocre past. But I as I said before, I will most likely get both anyway, as long as Prototype doesn't end up being a bad port or a massively over-hyped mediocre game.
And all of this is pure speculation anyway, since neither you or I have even been able to play the games, and as I originally said, I was simply more interested in inFAMOUS due to what it actually brings to the table and it's concept. It's a little more immersive of a game, and overall looks to have more depth. That's all my personal opinion. You also can not say for sure that Prototype will end up selling millions, since we really don't know what the final product will be. Games of 08 like Dark Sector were speculated to sell mullions, but even combined console sales didn't bring them over the 2 million mark. Dark Sector itself is looking at just over a million combined between PC, PS3 and 360.

Dont get the same wow affect like from infamous ? PUUURLEASE inFamous is just about the most mediocre title the ps3 has to offer, Prototype got a comic book deal by D.C comics, wheres infamous's comic book deal ?, not in sight, ill tell you why, because inFamous is a direct rip from Static shock, the game looks generic at best, Prototype is looking to be game of the year hands down

havent you guys seen the videos of Prototype?!, you can run up buildings and jump like hulk and glide/fly like Sora. It looks sick! I actually dont know much about infamous besides lightening. but I'll probably be getting both. It'll be a nice change from all the fps and horror games I've been playing... btw VC is cool, Vyse rules.

And prototype releasing near inFamous wont hurt its sells, trust me, more people are buying prototype rather than inFamous, inFamous will take the back seat to prototype, iNFamous hype is somewhat non existant, Prototype is multiplat, ps3 games dont sell that well lol

@6 From the videos I've seen so far I find myself drawn more to Prototype than Infamous and UFC over Fight Night. I haven't made a decision myself yet, but putting graphics aside I think gameplay on Prototype and UFC looks more interesting than teh other two.

the screenshots and videos shown of prototype are ALL 20% builds And pre alpha stages of the game, NONE of them had all the polishing the final build is going to have, so noone actualy knows how good prototype's graphics are just yet simply because they never shown a final build of the game, anyway infamous looks gay

Yeah, real mature arguement Brit, argue your case by name-calling. And for that matter, relating inFAMOUS to Static Shock, is like saying COD is the same as Resistance, only because they are in the same genre. And if you really want to get into that arguement, you could call Prototype a blatant rip off of the movie Hanc0ck.
Why bother antagonizing people on here who have a different opinion? Are you somehow offended that people might actually have different opinions than you? What do you even know about inFAMOUS to give it such hatered, and for that matter if you are going to judge things now, how can you give Prototype such praise when you yourself said "the screenshots and videos shown of prototype are ALL 20% builds And pre alpha stages of the game". If that's actually true, than there is no possible way you can judge the game as it will continiously change. Not to mention the fact that you have never played it to even give an accurate decision.
My thought is that you're an angry 360 fanboy who comes only to spread drama. Your comments indicate that you do not own a PS3 and have only come to piss people off. Seeing as how you JUST joined today, and you are already causing problems, in no other simpler words, please leave and don't come back until you learn how to treat people with respect.

Wow akiraburn no the real question is what do YOU know about prototype ?, clearly its not much since you compare to handc0ck........hanc0ck doesnt shapeshift, handc0ck doesnt have a blade arm, handc0ck cannot consume and become anyone he see's changing his genetic code whenever he pleases, Alex mercer has various powers you cannot pin him to just one hero, he is truly original and unique and no hero in the world exist that has Alex Mercer's several abilities but several heroes have cole's abilities LOL, electricity has been done time and time again........yea nice one there, you dont know anything about the game however ive been looking into both infact i am no 360 fanboy, i prefer the PS3, Euroshinobi is my PSN, you should add it sometimes :P i just tell it how it is, and inFamous looks like crap, anyone who looks at that game and looks at the demo's and trailers for prototype and say inFamous is best, is obviously a fanboy, on inFamous's nuts because its a PS3 title the game's mechanics look sloopy and stiff, and the story is going to be lackluster, inFamous is a wannabe City of heroes lol i will buy inFamous ofcourse because i own a ps3, but as for it killing prototype ? As If, if anything prototype will cause inFamous sells to go down espeacialy if they release at the same time

Hulk1215, it's cool, no problems, thanks for understanding. Some people are more into the idea of Prototype and that's cool. I am personally digging inFAMOUS more, but that's just my opinion. And luckily after talking with a gamestop manager today, he said that inFAMOUS was pushed up to May 1st. So luckily these games shouldn't directly be in conflict with one another (hopefully a month or so gap should be good), and we should be able to enjoy them both.
Brit, I can see this isn't going anywhere. In your prior statements, you've claimed that games don't sell well on PS3 (sounds like a bias statement, and also isn't true), that inFAMOUS is a terrible game (when none of us have even tried it), that Prototype is the best of the two games (which is also impossible to know due to the fact that we only have a few videos to go off of for each, and again, no one has played either here), and you call ANYONE who disagrees and prefers something different than you a fanboy? You overstep your bounds completely here, and for you being a new member, this is even more entirely out of line. Is it so preposterous to think that people will have different opinions than you, and they aren't fanboys?
My entire point of relating Hanc0ck to Prototype, was to show you the same generalization that you have made on inFAMOUS to Static Shock. You say that Alex is unique, well I say it's general idea has been used before (the T2000 from Terminator 2 has basically all those same capabilities you listed). While it may not be the same EXACT character and traits, it's been done before in similar tones. Neither game's character is based on something completely groundbreakingly new, but that doesn't mean either is bad. Each game presents their idea of their character in their own way. You go on to say inFAMOUS looks like crap and handles poorly, and continiously rant on how awful the game is, but you're going to buy it anyway? I am sorry, but that doesn't make any sense. You are killing your own arguements, and you aren't winning any friends here.
I never said that either game was going to be bad, I was simply stating that I was more excited for one than the other, but you started a lot of problems here right away by attacking my statements without just cause, and started pointlessly attacking a potentially awesome game. You state complete untruths and state them as fact. You furthermore insult anyone without a similar opinion as yourself, and that is not right by any sense of the word.
