Ratchet fails to break 100k sales mark

There are many ways to measure success. One must look at all factors in the given situation and then take a verdict from there. Given particular circumstances, success can either be achieved or not achieved. In this case, Insomniac games is taking the same approach.
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a much-needed PlayStation 3 exclusive that couldn’t have come at a better time. Yet, despite its hype, the title failed to match up to initial sales forecasts.
The PS3 exclusive came in with 74,500 sales in its first two weeks on the market, shy of the projected 100,000-unit goal for the first three weeks. Despite missing the initial goal, Sony continues to be grateful of the success thus far.
"SCEA is very happy with the initial sales numbers of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction," a Sony Computer Entertainment America representative commented.
"In a crowded market of mature content, Ratchet is a fun, sophisticated alternative that truly showcases the power of the PS3. Ratchet is the perfect gift for PlayStation fans of all ages and we expect sales to continue to remain strong."
There are two things that must be noted. R&C Future in its first two weeks sold more than the PS2 multiplayer driven, Ratchet & Clank Deadlocked sold (55,300 units) in its fifth month. The second thing to point out is that the PS3 is still establishing itself, trying to push more hardware units into consumer’s homes. So given the current situation for the PS3, selling 74,500 units in the first two weeks isn’t bad.
The holiday shopping season is about to commence so there is plenty room for more success, which is just around the corner.

I've played it, it is a good game. The only thing is, there is a lot of competition for these developers and a lot of high-profile games have come out at the same time. I say wait til after Christmas.

sometimes i don't get these PS3 owners...they complain about the PS3 lacking games yet...when a good one comes they hold back. there are more than 5million PS3 owners and not even 100k went out and bought R&C, if this goes on no wonder devs don't want to make games for the PS3, unlike 360 owners when they support a game they go all the way at the launch of that game

I'm one of those 74,500 that we're smart enough to buy this game. If you don't buy this game or Uncharted then you are wasting your 400-600 dollar investment. Both these games are by far the most visually beautiful games I've ever played. If you can't afford games right now, put them on your christmas wishlist!!!

I realy don't understand this. With the lacks of games in the PS3, it would be expected this game to sell well.
The game isn't out in Portugal yet.
I'm gonna get it for xmas. Maybe a lot of people is wating for Xmas.
Uncharted and R&C are mandatory games of any PS3 owner.

If you have the money why wait? this title is way worth the money! i have 26 games for my system so far, and ill have around like 34 or more by years end, im supporting my console and so should all of you. Buy Resistance, LAIR, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank and all other first party developer titles to show your support for a grand future ahead of us. Sony and their first party developers are spoiling us with so much, were getting KZ2 and GT5 which look to be the most grapically advanced games ever, same with Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Ratchet and Clank....all of these titles are supreme. You should also support 3rd party developers so they dont feel like they should give us crappy ports.

a game doesnt need to sell around 400k + copies to be popular since gamers enjoy games that comes out reguardless of sales... but reviews if a game gets bad reviews and the game sold 250k copies so far then gamers wouldnt be interested in it but good reviews for ratchet and clank t.o.d. meaning that sales could climb even more.

this indeed is a must have game but i don't think they have factored in internet sales. i don't know about you guys but i pre-order all mine online and get them shipped to me. i do feel that since this game is more of a pre-teen/early teen game that alot of parents are waiting to get it for xmas for their kids. that said even us adults would love this game. anyways i don't know if ratchet and clank was ever a million unit selling game on the ps2 so it doesn't exactly have the following like mgs or gta.
oh..and i don't have 26 games but i do have 22 games...and i don't know where you find time to play them all....i haven't even opened 4 yet. lol...hopefully i will find time but between work and playing cod online there isn't much time for that....oh and my dog gets kinda jealous if i don't play with him too. wow..26 is alot.

@Rigtheous, I am still waiting for a good game. I dont hold back because I dont want to spend the $, I hold back because the game isnt worth my time or money.
@French, I actually paid $900 for mine, and still wont buy a platformer game.
@Undying_Darkness, I will show my support for the first company that makes a game I want. Until then, I wait.

Keep in mind it's comming out in a time when there are an unprecidented number of titles all lumpted together. There's also a lot of competition in those releases as everyone of them are potential 8s and 9s and some are rated 10s. It's hard to buy every game you want when there are so many to choose from.
R&C could stand to get a revitalized campaign after the holidays to remind people that there's still a damn good game that they havent bought yet and that they should do so when they finish paying off all their holiday bills. -

I'm not getting the game since it's not a gameplay for me even remotely. Insomniac got my support for Resistance and will get support for RFoM2. The past years I've come to dislike FPS games (been there done that), but RFoM's multiplayer is awesome. (I won't be getting CoD4, Haze or UT3). Since PS3 games cost $100 here, I can afford only a few games - and the best games for me will be released in a few weeks. Only after that I might afford RCF ^^. And in the meanwhile I still have several great PS3 games to complete here :)

My god there is a comment section that Gingo has not commented on LOL... But to the point... I even own this game and I don't even have the system yet... I am looking at least another 2 week's before I get it but I bought the game so I will have something to play in front of my little girl. Never mind I didn't see his post at the beginning... Now I feel like a dolt.

I am amazed that this game has not been popular. It's a big title - one of the best for the year and there isn't much competition on PS3 right now so how could this not ratchet up 250,000 + in the first week is beyond reason. Consider Halo picked up 1.7 million in the first day and 2.8 million by the end of week one. Even Crackdown managed to get 700,000 in the first week... Gears of War has sold over 4 million and crazier still Mario Party 8 did 500,000 in the first 24 hours of release and has gone on to sell another 2 or 3 million ----guys that's Mario Party 8....Jeeze.
Ratchet & Clank Future picking up just 75K over a two week launch period ...it does not make sense.
