Red Faction: Guerrilla to look identical on PS3/360

During a post E3 event in London recently concerning Volition's upcoming Red Faction: Guerrilla, Associate Producer Ismael Vicens spoke with Videogamer.com in regards to how the title looks visually identical on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

"At E3 we showed the PS3 build and to be honest if you didn't look at the controller that was in the hands of the person demoing it you would not be able to tell the difference," said Vicens. "They're completely on parity with each other right now. Feature for feature they're identical. Visually they're pretty much identical."

However, Vicens conceded that the team initially had some concerns in regards to working with Sony’s flagship gaming console, though they ultimately proved to be short lived:

"Initially when we got the PS3 and we started working on that we thought it was going to be, oh my gosh! But we got some really talented programmers that basically ported over the game in a fairly short amount of time," he said.

Here is some multiplayer beta footage of Red Faction: Guerrilla Min action:

oh man, another game that looks just exactly the same on both consoles. This kinda suxxx so much, is now every dam** game going to look "not so good" just because the xbots have to be satisfied in order not making them moan about having the less advanced console.

Honestly, PSU?  You can stop printing these stories now and instead post when they WON'T or DON'T look identical.  It's obvious that no developer wants to burden themselves with task of having to separate builds when they go cross platform.  This is no longer news.  At one time it was news, but now we all get it.  It's not news anymore.  Like I said, it's now news if the builds are different.  The PS3's power is now negated when it comes to the 3rd party.  If people don't like 1st party Sony games, there's no reason to bring up PS3's power anymore.  Just like the first Xbox.  When you (that means all of you) finally accept that 99% of 3rd party games will be released on both consoles (or more...ick), you will see that it was like EVERYTHING being released on the PS2 at a minimum, with a port to the Xbox.  Unless the PS3 magically starts trouncing the 360 in hardware sales by 3 and 4 to 1 (won't happen), this will be how this generation is defined.  THE ONLY WAY SONY CAN RECLAIM THAT CRAZY LEVEL OF DOMINANCE IS HAVING AN EQUALLY CRAZY STRING OF **ORIGINAL** 1ST PARTY EXCLUSIVES THAT GETS THE INDUSTRY BUZZING (and Xbox fans more jealous than they already are).  If that doesn't happen, this will be the generation remembered as the "one where it was neck and neck all the way through and where hardcore gamers took a back seat in th eindustry's eyes because whatever was cheaper (The Wii) won out."

This is really starting to tick me off.  What ever happened to the days when you have the better console and the graphics were obviously better.  Whats the point of having the PS3 when the games commin out look nearly the same as the 360.  All this power is being un-used, why?  I know it can't all be development cost's.

    @5

Read my post.  And by the way, those "days where the better console mean better graphics"?  You need a history lesson.  The console with the most hardware sold gets the games.  Everything else is a port.  That's the way it has been, and that's what will be (even more than the past).  The NES over the Sega Master System.  The Super NES over the Genesis (a fine console) and the Turbografx 16 (another fine console...just didn't have the hardware sales).  The PS1 over the N64 and Sega Saturn (this is where the theory is proven best.  Sony, the new kid on the block, had crazy hardware sales that ended it for the two current industry giants.  So much so that...)

    *

The Dreamcast, Gamecube and Xbox, three SUPERIOR HARDWARE CONSOLES to the PS2, were decimated by the sheer number of PS2's sold.   The effects of which are still being felt to this day.  The difference?  The 360, a solid machine, for all its success has still only sold around what the original did at this time (about 23 million).  Will it go much further than that?  In contrast, 140 million PS2 have left shelves for homes.  How many PS2 guys switched over to 360?  How many have both a PS3 and 360?  REMEMBER, HARDCORE GAMERS ARE THE MINORITY (despite the fact that your 2 friends are, most consumers are NOT).  Think about it.  Now that this generation has effectively killed the 3rd party exclusive, it's all about the games you make IN-HOUSE.  Advantage?  Nintendo and Sony.  Microsoft can't buy 3rd party support forever.  Look at MS 360's E3 showing.  What if they never got FF13?  What kind of week would they have had?  FF13 was a desperation move and I think it only gets worse for 360 fans from here.  My opinion.

I wont buy it. Its a shame that you dev's of RED FRACTION is just plan sorry. You get a powerfull machine that you can do anything with and you take the easy way out. You port down to a system of power from a system with no power. And you dev's wonder why its so hard to work on the ps3. Its like going from the 12th grade to the 8th grade. I might as well just buy First party games because they already look great and are own buy a true system by SONY, and the line up thats going out with the PSN line up... its crazy. Thats enough games to last me to 2010 and by then, there will be another great line up of games. I will not by a game that will only use 10 gigs with 40gigs left on a blu ray because you want to keep it the same as xbox. That means you want me to spend 60 bucks for your game when only you only put in 20 bucks worth of work in it. lol <--- I should s.h.i.t on you, you no game make devs.

psn id: I95SOUTH<--   Vote me for President...... because its really time for a change!

p.s   I  F@#K with you ( I dont know his name) that made MGS4..... You are the only dev that make a real game that is 3th party. Big ups to you for staying real to the ps3 fan base. You know a power system when you see one and didnt try to make a quick buck by making it for the xbox. You knew what kind of game you wanted and knew that it wouldnt work on the xbox. If you did port it now to the 360 I know it wont be the same as ps3 caue it dont have the power. much love, no homo.

p.s.s  Damn SE.... where is the shocking news you said was coming.Still waiting!! Your sell outs too. We make you all this money all these years. and right when you were about to say we are making a remake of FF7, microsoft said hold on lets make a deal. Here is a 100 mill

Thank GOD it;s not first person, I'm so frigging tired of all this first person crap.

  12. HeartAttackSilv3rback |

nooo.. allthough i allready knew it was gunna be third person.. im still dissapointed, cuz the first 2 red factions were b@dazz in almost every way.. sooooo f.u.c.k.i.n fun with lots of great features and now they are gunna kill it not only by dubbing it down so that the terdbox can have its way but putting third person...

look wut conflict denied ops id... they were all about third person (witch i loved almost all their games ALOT for the ps2),and then they thot they could do better by switching it up for a change.. WRONG,that s.h.i.t backfired on them so bad,

now violition is trying to do that (make a change) in the game "strategie's" and its not gunna do that great as if they would of had it first person.

Another pass for me. Jeez, I'm starting to think that maybe I shouldn't have purchased a console this gen since I'm going to be really bored between first party titles. All because devs can't be bothered to exploit power & disk space. Where's the expanding that the industry is clammoring for if they won't follow through.

I mean, if you're not going to put a valiant effort into a game, then why should I  buy it? Port is a 4-letter word from here on out. If PS3 game developments aren't at the very least run in parallel to the 360, I'm not getting it. I'm tired of this schit.

if this game is a online multiplayer game like warhawk i'm wont be buying this game. i'll rather continue to play warhawk. because by that trailer warhawk looks better to me and more fun its about time for a addon for warhawk anyway

WHY DO YOU PORT FROM 360??? it makes absolutely NO sense its better for both consoles to put ps3 as lead then port to the 360 freaking rediculous

and for all the people complaining about the ps3s power not being utilized did you not notice all of the FIRST PARTY GAMES and how rage will look better on ps3 than 360 because blu ray allows for uncompressed assets god i am SICK of whiners! i dont care if the ps3 was 100 dollars and had every triple a game and every feature you could ever have out TODAY people would still ****** B**** SHUTUP ALREADY

    • 2:30pm BST - August 2nd, 2008

The way i see it is that any game that looks the same on both consoles and does not have any extra features(blu ray has way more space) for the ps3 is not in it for the gamers but only the money. That said buy and play the games you like, and if the difference between consoles in a game is a must than the game just probably isn't worth it from the beginning.

won`t be buying this game then,no excuse to make both versions the same, will only buy games that have been ported if they have better graphics, added extras for the ps3 or a much lower price then the 360 version to reflect that the devs have not worked to there full potential on the ps3.

Same old sh** just another publisher. What are they afraid of? Honestly, do pub/dev  have some seceret deal with MS that they can't make push the PS3 version to look better then the crashbox ? The 360's power is tapped. What you see with games like GoW is best they are going to be able to do. Maybe well see dev push harder when their are more hardware sales. Or MS stops throwing money at pub'dev.
