Resident Evil 5 to remain gory, promises Capcom

Capcom has assured its fanbase that Resident Evil 5 won't shy away from brutal and gory depictions in an attempt to acquire a more temperate rating.
“We’re never going to create a gore-free Resident Evil title to try and get a lower rating as it’s a game about the horror experience and gore is part of that,” said Rhys Cash, Capcom UK's research and planning manager. “We’re primarily about making great games and if it’s appropriate to the title we won’t shy away from making a 15+ or 18+ title.”
“There’s no reason why an appropriate adult title should be seen as something to be shied away from. What I do see publishers moving away from is titles whose only raison d'être is ‘adult themes’ and only goal is to shock,” Cash concluded.
There's two sides to this debate amongst the videogame industry. Some publishers speculate that toning down a title will allow that title to acquire a lower rating, and therefore sell to an extended audience. On the other hand, mature titles that are masterfully crafted, Grand Theft Auto or God of War games for example, still push millions of units despite their restricted age ratings.
It looks like we know which side of the fence Capcom intends to keep the Resident Evil franchise on. Happy, dissatisfied? Let your voice be heard in the comment section below.

This game will be another to test Australias rating system...or should I say lack there of.
@rex - I care about the rating, because if it gets an 18+ rating in the states it most likely will be toned down or in the worst case banned for us Aussie gamers as Australia is dumb and doesn't have an "adult" rating.

I haven't played a Resident Evil game since the first one on Playstation (it was my first game). I think it may be time to go back to this franchise.

Age ratings on games are irrelevant, as no-one takes them seriously. If Little Johnny pesters mummy enough, she'll buy it. It's wrong, but it's true. Parents won't let their kids watch 18-rated movies, but they'll buy them 18-rated games, even though they carry the same restriction and are subject to the same ratings criteria.
Then, when Little Johnny picks up mummy's best carving knife and removes his baby sister's heart and left arm, mummy will blame the games industry, crying "I had no idea! Ban this sick filth!"
Until society in general stops thinking in terms of "videogames are for kids", the problem will continue.

Anyone else think they are saying: Hey 360 Fanboys, don't worry we are going to make it a bloodfest, and loads of gore on top!

Resident evil has alwas been an adult game so toning down the gore will kill this great IP, for does which want excellent games non-gore they should play at R&C! @Eric2929, lol! me too I think the same!

Ratings will never stop me from buying a game! My first game was Ninja Gaiden Sigma (although head decapating is missing in the EU version...), I just got an adult to buy it for me :D
So yeah, if publishers tone a game, it won't reach a broader market. It will reach the excact same market (except for Australia, lol) but fewer will buy it because they are dissapointed with the toning!

The racist talk is bull sharks, zombies are better than mutants and it should stay that way. though this is just my opinion.
taurus82 comment 13 "It would be funny to see a Resident Evil with comedy non-bl00dy deaths"Are you serious mate, some people are beyond help? I have to say I'm gutted that capcom have chose to go multi platform with this title, In my eyes its as much a loss as GTA was if not more.
I could understand Street fighter but then I suppose the devs have to go for the £££, never fear the other platforms are inferiour machines and patience is a wise mans virtue.
