Rock Band is going country...seriously

In a move that was expected after an announcement in late October, Harmonix is apparently preparing to make five country songs available for download. Country Music Television's blogger, Alison Bonagura, has reported that Harmonix will be adding five country songs to their downloadable store on December 16. With a library of over 400 rock songs, this marks the first time that Rock Band will feature songs way outside its genre.

The artists that will be featured in the set include: Brad Paisley, Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, The Dixie Chicks and Miranda Lambert. Considering how many fans have openly complained about the recent selection of rock songs added over the last couple of weeks, we can only imagine what type of backlash this could potentially create.

Not unexpected. There are a lot of southerners playing this and GH game from my experience, and quite a few who've been demanding this type of music as much as people wanting Pantera. I'm glad they're continuing to be open to other music styles even if there arent any songs I particularly want from these bands. (some might say these "rock" as well.)

Rock Band is riding the money train.  Country gets too much exposure with a catagory in the grammy's and it's own academy.  there needs to be an academy of heavy metal.  that would rock.  at least it isn't part of the main game.  those songs would not be hard since they all fall into the same chords, same scales,  same tone, same speed.  blah blah blah blah.  who cares about country.  i don't!!

There are a handful of twisted, strange, vile things on this otherwise beautiful Earth. Country music is one of them.

    Good for country fans though.

@ 15  My sentiments exactly. My wife is more than happy they're adding Dixie Chicks. I'm glad Harmonix isn't as close minded as the chaps above.

That crap isn't country...Why not make it good, and put some real artists on there(e.g. Waylon, Willie, and of course as mentioned before Johnny)? Just tryin' to "cap" on some crappy artists that have no talent at all that probably take part in that "American Idol" bs.

It appears someo of you have not listened to country in a while.  Brooks and Dunn is probably the best overall Country duo of all time.  I think their Music Awards and album sales shows that.  Not my personal favorite, but its hard to argue they shouldn't be in that list.  Also Brad Praisley is one of the top artist currently out there right now and is very creative with his music.  Even not as a big fan, I can still appreciate his talents.  Now the others you could argue with all you want, they are not the best picks for country, but then what about all the Rock crap they have on there.  Its not all great now is it.

You're all a bunch of ****ing babies. i'm not a big "metal" fan but i dont whine like a little ***** about all the metal songs in rock band. I play them and respect them for their talent.  Country will make Rock band an even better game for having a wide range of diversity.  So quite you bloddy cryin and just dont buy the country DLC!!!!!!!

At least its an additional download and not an entire different game alltogether. While its known not as "Country band" this is a welcome addition for those who cant stand or dont get "rock". Ie, this could be a great way to get my parents finally involved in the phenomin, outside of Message in a Bottle :p
