Rockstar founder on GTA IV press reaction

Dan Houser, the founder of developer Rockstar Games, has gone on record to state that the company is anticipating press reaction for its upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV to be nothing short of controversial.
"I expect it because we've had so much of it in the past," said Houser, speaking at a recent demonstration for the game to the North American press.
"I wish people would treat video games the same as other media. They seem to not want to do that for reasons that I don't understand. It's a convenient enemy for people."
Elsewhere, Houser also highlighted the approach to realism with the latest instalment in the franchise, specifically noting a lack of elements that he describes as “cartoony.”
"If the graphics are slightly cartoony, we make sure the writing is slightly cartoony to match that," he said.
"Obviously, the graphics have gone closer to realism, so we wanted everything else to be closer to realism as well."
Grand Theft Auto IV is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on April 29.

Graphics are not next gen. but I guess this game is about gameplay.

H3LiX, I don't think it will be delayed. They have been stung bad with the blocking of manhunt 2. They can't afford to have GTAIV delayed anymore. The powers that be will be calling for profit, and wanting it soon.
They'll be pushing things right to the limit though, and that's just how it should be.
I'm assuming it'll get an M/mature rating.

There is always something to complain about when every GTA game comes out this one will be no different. I dont care how "Real" they are trying to make it look, its still only a video game. People should understand that by now, when it comes down to it all its just a game if you can handle it or dont like it then dont play it. Just that simple. As for me Im going to buy this game and love every minute i play it.

@ Wintee Let's hope so. Given the current political climate regarding games, I can see GTA IV being "watched closely" by the PC brigade (Politically Correct). so no more silly missions that looks more like run-boy jobs? i mean those freaking mini games took hours to get used to and starting missions all over again, i really want them to make it possible to say no to missions and move on. not important missions like fighting but the stupid meaningless ones, if we want mini racer etc. we would play flash game.

@ PSN GINGO, dude stop saying greatest to everything...i love GTA but im not hyped for it... i mean.....xcrap360 ruin the gm...i doubt this will be better then GTA S.A.......i know for sure eight days and will pawn this gm....sorrry R* THIS GTA LOST OF RESPECT-_-

I don't think it will get delayed again but I can see it getting take off of the shevles if the media is bad like years past, which would be a damn shame.

every time a new gta comes out, the press goes crazy. they say it causes our children to do crazy things. well i say don't buy this game for your children then, right? If the content of this game offends somebody, they should A: not watch it being played, or B: not watch it being played. Sounds so simple to me. Am i crazy for thinking this way?

At least put back decapitation,I loved that about GTA III.On a side note,if the media can overlook interactive porn games,why the F do they have such a problem with anything R* makes.
