Rockstar reaffirms GTA IV multiplayer support

Previous comments this week made by Microsoft’s Senior VP, Don Mattrick, hinted that the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV would feature multiplayer support that would be "unique" to the Microsoft console.
Understandably, this came as a shock as it was always believed that online multiplayer would be compatible for both platforms.
"It's an amazing piece of software, and I'm really excited with its downloadable content and online multiplayer support - again, that's something that's unique to 360," said Mattrick.
"We think consumers are going to love that, and it's going to create what I would describe, again, as the premium experience on our platform."
Despite initial backlash from the gaming community, we can confirm that the comments from Microsoft are nothing but murmurs, and that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 will indeed support online multiplayer for GTA IV.
It is speculated that Mattrick may have been refering to Xbox Live when suggesting multiplayer support was "unique to 360."
"It's always something we've been open about, both versions will support online multiplayer capabilities," a Rockstar spokesperson explains.
Grand Theft Auto IV will be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 April 29, 2008.

2nd hahahaha this is so fun !!! sooo, Giengordon, did you win anything for beeing first? i see that you havent even commented on the article i guess you didnt even read it hu.
any ways, we just have to wait and see what is so unique in the 360 that wont be in the PS3.. i think he is just claiming exlusivity and murmurs around that the 360 version will be better because of a few added chapters, all of that just to sale a console.
i have both consoles but i will make up my mind as soon as they reveal whats so special on the 360, if it aint nothing big ill stick with the ps3 version, where i have most of my online friends.

downloadable content...Ill bite, but possibly off-balancing multiplayer for one system? Thats garbage, GTA4 is about to lose a sale if they keep this ignorant crap up, and I know im just one person out of millions. But maybe they need to realize that screwing over people like that makes them look like real d**kheads.

Both formats will feature the same online "features". Mattrick has chosen his words very cleverly in the sense it "unique" in relevance to XBox LIVE.
ps. BOTH PS3 and XBox 360 games have online play.
Microsoft have paid Rock* for exclusive downloadable content in relation to "episodes" which basically means more missions.

The interesting thing is that although this also sounds like a spin to me, what would have happened if this were not a spin. That would really upset PS3 owners. Can you imagine how much that would hurt sales for the PS3 version. Rockstar would certainly see a lost after all the time and money they have put into this game. I hope that this is not the case though.

this dork think his statement is gonna make the 360 more appealing, get real!!!!, why would rockstar do such a thing in the first place?ms should try selling consoles which don't get pink eye and stop making thier fans waste money in crappy technology (hd-dvd) for nothing

Online will be the same for both consoles, M$ need to come up with an explanation why GTA 4 will cause even more Red Rings of Death exclusively to the 360.

We know for a fact thar M$ payed some bucks to have some exclusive content, obviously there will be some extras in the game. But when will M$ learn that bribing is not the way to go? They have to create new franchises or else they won't go far.
Side note: Today I went to a video game store, and they had a XBox. Guess what was the console showing? RROD!! That was so funny. M$ style.

cant believe people actualy need a freaking answer its like saying mgs is going to be on 360 all over again. Why the heck would rockstar make the most stupid decision in the history based on what? they got payed for extra continenet and thats probably single player and nothing to do with online. so why would they not make mp for ps3?

i dont care what MS has to say... they might think gears of war 2 will be amazing in everyway, but the truth is god of war 3 is going to pull out the victor.... MS is jealous of sony, and are hard headed... GTA IV will be both good on 360 and ps3 no doute about it... hope MS will finally cut some slack off sony in the coming years :( ....... (psn id^^^)

AWWWW "MATTRICK SHOULD THINK ABOUT RROD AND HOW MANY 36o they gonna get back, i mean come even without online wtf people will sit on playing gta for hours, 360 owners should be warned, but i doubt 360 gta sells will beat sonys sells, GTA= PLAYSTATION FAMILY!
