Rumor: Netflix service coming to the PS3?

The Internet rumour mill has been in full swing again today, with reports coming in that online rental company Netflix may be bringing its service to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Reports originate from a survey supposedly distributed by the company, which presents consumers with the following question: "If as part of your Netflix membership you could instantly watch movies and TV episodes on your TV with your PS/3 or XBOX 360, how likely would you/anyone in your household be to do that?”

The survey reveals that users will be able to play streaming media on their console by utilizing a "special Netflix disc." Furthermore, aside from paying USD 3 for the disc itself, consumers would not be charged any additional fees.

No mention was given to how the PS3 will handle the Microsoft-based DRM.

Regardless what the survey may indicate, readers should file this one under speculation for the time being, at least until we hear otherwise.

We’ll keep you updated on any developments.

    Pauls, Netflix is like an "Online Movie Rental" business where you pay a monthly subscription and you rent movies through the mail or through live streaming over their website.

    G-Code2603, some of the people here are not from the US and may not be familiar with American companies.

    Netflix is a service where you can rent movies online and have them delivered to your home for a monthly fee. It's kinda cool, but Blockbuster's online service was better.

    Wood, just because it's NETflix doesn't mean it doesn't have a country of origin.  Do you think Japanese interNET users can use Netflix?  No.  Do you think Netflix has their advertisers putting money into advertising in the UK, Japan, etc... when their product isn't available there?  No.  So why would you expect people from those countries to just automatically know what it is just because it's called NETflix?  That doesn't make sense or hold water, sorry buddy.  No disrespect either.

    @Dave

    You're one of the few writers who actually comments back on stuff and that's actually respectable, so getting into a little squabble with a member just become entertaining.

    @Soviet

    Lighten up a bit man, even the other guy laughed at himself.

    Netflix is much cheaper than blockbuster. For 13.99 a month you get 2 at a time movies, BD included. Unlimited Online movie watching, and unlimited rentals. If you want to keep the movies for a couple months you can, with no late fees. Or if you watch the same day and send them back, the next two in your list will be sent. You can do more at a time for a little more a month as well.  Overall a great service that I would use on My PS3 for sure. I do hope it offers HD though.

    Would be an awesome bonus to my service already. I'd love to watch the movies I stream from their site on my Bravia instead of comp monitor. Netflix = much better than Blockbuster online and at half the cost, plus faster service. Anyway I never got this survey from Netflix so dunno, but I'd definately support it.
