Rumor: PSP2 to release by Christmas this year

While Sony has remained quiet on the release of a successor to the PlayStation Portable, website Pocket Gamer has claimed via an inside developer source that the new hardware is very much in the works and should be with us by Christmas.
The PSP2 is to be far more similar to the iPhone than the current model, being a much more compact device with a large touchscreen. According to the source, the touchscreen will slide open, revealing familiar buttons, such as Dual Analogue Controls and D-pads.
Full specs and pricing details are likely to be unveiled at the E3 Media and Business Summit in June. File this under rumor for the time being, just to be on the safe side - stay tuned.

the timing seems about right. psp2 is for dlc, they need internal storage. I think at least 32GB of it, plus pro duo slot. If they drop umd it wont bother me one bit. but, i can see where others might not like it.

It would be nice if it was this christmas however, it does seem a little soon. Sony should let third party developers make apps for the psp2 if its going to be like the iphone. I concur with the internal storage minimum of 32gb.

assasins creed, littlebig planet and motorstorm are coming soon to the psp this year, so they wont kill it right after this games are released, pure BS

Nah I dont see that happening.I would get it though.If it had phone capabilities I wouldhold off on getting an Experia X1 for this.But this is a late April fools joke.

ud think theyd make it backwards compatible, but it could be brought out tis yr especialy if they done it in secret so it could be released tomorow even tho it probably wont be, and i think they should give it hard drive like what ipod got 120gb plus the duo and memory card slots

Seems about right, the PSP has been out since Dec 04 so 5 years for another PSP. Besides Christmas time is there best bet at releasing a system, and they need to release a new handheld to compete with Nintendos new DSi.

I would like to see a Touch Screen, Motion Sensitive, Sony PSP Phone with the ability to synch with MS Office.
That would be freaking awesome.
Oh wait. ActiveSync will not work with Sony. Never mind.
At least have it be Touch Screen, Motion Sensity, with 2 to 4 GB of RAM. That would be enough.
