SCEA confirms internal depletion of 60GB PS3

Sony Computer Entertainment America has confirmed that it has shipped all remaining stock of the 60GB PlayStation 3 console to retail, stating that a sizeable amount still remains available for purchase.
In a recent email, SCEA spokesperson David Karraker stated: "We no longer have any inventory in SCEA warehouses. All inventory has been purchased and shipped to retailers.”
"We don't have visibility as to if that is on their store shelves or in their warehouses at this time. However, based on inventory reports from our retailers, there is ample supply still left in the channel."
Sony previously cut the price of the 60GB system by USD 100 last month, later announcing that the model would be phased out once stock at retail had been depleted. This leaves only the 80GB version, which currently retails for USD 599 and comes packaged with a copy of Evolution Studios’ MotorStorm.
A price cut for the 80GB console has not been entirely ruled out, however:
"We won't be making any further announcements regarding our PS3 model hardware strategy in North America until the 60GB model is exhausted and market conditions are evaluated”, Sony said last month.
Stay tuned for more information as it breaks.

I still don't understand why rumble is so important to some people. I got so used to it that I forgot it existed. The only time I noticed it was when I set my controller on the coffee table and it shook

rumble is soo important to much of us.. and usually, when we become "so used to" something, we highly remark this "something" when it disappear.
rumble is important, even the wii-mote has rumble ! Luckily, it will come back, the only reason not having it being the "problems" sony had with Immersion.. -

Well I already have the 80GB model......BRING ON THE RUMBLE BABY!!. Anyone who doesn't want/like rumble shouldn't have much to say because you have the stale controller of your dreams now (non-rumble sixaxis)...so you don't really have to see why we (who want rumble) want it so badly. And if it gets released you don't have to buy it...and there will be more than enough "like new" non-rumble controllers on ebay when the rumble version comes out....trust me!

He's talking about harddrive space, not memory. You can't change the amount of RAM your PS3 has.... And he probably puts more stuff on it than the average person - he probably uses it as a media center or something similar.
As for rumble, I'd certainly like a rumble controller, but I'd like the boomerang even more.

the only time rumble matters to me is when i am grinding a rail in tony hawk, my rumble broke once on my ps2 controller once upon a time and it felt so weird. i don't care what kind of controller i have as long as it doesn't have the freaking D-pad buttons linked together! does anyvody else hate that as much as i do?

I'm with you royboy - I want the backward compatibility chip back. I have a lot (and I mean 300+) PS2 titles and I'm pissed at the crap compatibility Ive got at the moment.
Rumble & 120GB HDD will come out at Christmas and the 80GB will sell for less than the current 60GB stock - I'll bet $50 that it sells for US$399 by the end of January.
