Ken Fieldman, art director at Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), has let slip that he tried to sell the idea of making God of War III a first person shooter to game director Stig Asmussen.
Chatting to CGSociety, Fieldman felt that the shift in viewpoint would have afforded the opportunity to present muscle-bound protagonist Kratos with heaps of “badass huge weapons” in which to unleash upon his unfortunate victims.
Obviously, the idea didn’t go down too well with Asmussen, which is why the team at SCE Studios Santa Monica plumped for the third person antics we’ve become accustomed to.
“I tried unsuccessfully to convince [Director] Stig to make ‘God of War III’ a first-person shooter,” said Fieldman. “Kratos could have some truly badass huge weapons that rip gods to shreds. Unfortunately he didn’t see the genius in the idea.”
God of War III will be released exclusively for PlayStation 3 in March 2010.
