Sonic Unleashed lead designer Yoshihisa Hashimoto has said that the game will bare no relation to SEGA’s poorly received Sonic the Hedgehog title, released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2006.
"As a development team, we originally started off this project planning to create Sonic Adventure 3,” said Hashimoto.
"In our minds, this game will have more in common with the older Sonic Adventure series. It has no relation to Sonic the Hedgehog [on PS3/Xbox 360] or Sonic and the Secret Rings".
As such, Hashimoto-san said that the game has been developed from the ground up, and "will purely be Sonic's new product. Of course, players will still be able to enjoy Sonic's symbolic actions such as Spin attack and Homing Attack".
Sonic Unleashed is shaping up to be a return to the series more traditional platforming roots, as well as introducing an entirely fresh concept, allowing gamers to control the blue hedgehog in werewolf form.

I loved Sonic Adventure, the graphical improvements for SA2 were nice but it was much more frustrating to play, harder through cheap annoying level design I think.

you're right Frank, how can someone judge without even playing the game. I agree I haven't been impressed or interested in sonic games ever since the original, but if this game is as good as the original it would be a great game.
Why can't they stick to the original sonic formula just like they did with the New Super Mario for the DS? Why try so hard to change something that is already proven to be good just to fit in the new 3D game category? -
