Secret God of War III footage made Jaffe sweat

Speaking during an interview with PSX Extreme, Eat Sleep Play co-founder David Jaffe discussed the advantages of developing exclusively for Sony’s PlayStation 3 console.
In addition, Jaffe expanded on his God of War III viewing stating that SCEA Santa Monica raised the bar, leaving him wondering "how the fu** are we going to compete?"
When asked whether or not he thought that focusing on the PS3 allows developers to squeeze some extra juice out of the graphics, Jaffe stated:
"I’m not a technical guy, but I think there’s no arguing that theory," adding, "But what’s more important: getting a little bit better graphics or getting substantially more sales and more people buying your product? The value in this argument is so minor and of interest to so few people in the industry that it’s not the real compelling reason to stay exclusive. There are business reasons to stay exclusive..."
However for Jaffe, being exclusive with Sony has more to do with the company and platform rather than the money.
"For me, I just love to be part of something that defines the PlayStation experience," he said. "It’s cool to have your system; it’s the cast of characters of your network."
Regarding the God of War III footage he recently witnessed, Jaffe commented, "it looked better than Gears 2; it looked like a Renaissance canvas-style painting come to life," said Jaffe. "Stunningly beautiful. I actually found myself getting nervous and sweaty and I was like, "why am I getting like this?" But it was because I was wondering, "how the fu** are we going to compete? The bar has just been raised again."

Jaffe is a real gamer and apreciates all good games. I like his honesty, and integrity... it is vary rare these day to find a character like him.

This guy has to stop talking, all he's doing is setting the hype up for gow3 (granted it does deserve a lot of hype), and when this game ends up being lower than everyone's expectations this a**hole's gonna be the one to blame.
Now I don't mind him saying how he thinks this game looks amazing, I do too, but so far we've heard him open his mouth like every week now for the last couple of weeks about how much better this game is than what the footage we can see right now is. Is it really? Now he's basically got this image burned into our minds about how amazing gow3 will be, but what happens if it isn't? then everybodies just gonna complain about how it's NOT amazing and this guy will basically ruin what we dreamed of. I have full expectations that gow3 can be the best game ever, I LOVED the first 2, but jaffe's just setting us up for a disaster right now.

Ok, is it just me, and no this is not flaming, that Gears of War 2, just wasn't that breathtaking, I will say that GOW has always used the best color pallete I've seen, but as far as frame-rate issues, and jaggies, they are frequent throughout the game, I played the game this past week on a 1080p display of my friends and was just let down terribly simply because it looked nothing like the "epic" commericals did when it first came out; so for me, for God of War III to look better than GOW2, isn't saying much, I would desire it to be more so on the level of MGS4 or maybe even GOW1, cause I know this past GOW wasn't that breathtaking as expected, anyone agree?

He thinks Gears 2 is the graphical benchmark right now, and I guess that's just his opinion.
An opinion that hardly anyone else shares, but an opinion nonetheless. I hope GoW3 does turn out how he's saying it, but I somehow doubt it.

I'm getting sick of Jaffe and his Gears of War 2 vs God of War 3 comparison. It wouldn't matter if it looked better than Gears 2 because there are several upcoming games (one is on the 360/PS3) that looks better than Gears period on consoles. God of War 3 should be compared to the likes of Rage, Heavy Rain, and Killzone 2. Or even Uncharted 2. Make it relevant.

I agree with 14; that he sould probably be comparing it to something more relevant to our own system, comparing to a 360 game only opens the doors for flamers and xbots to attack, we should be operating in our own world right now working hard to place the software on teh same level with teh hardware, and what I mean by that is, that we already have a great piece of hardware (blu ray, free network access, etc.), now we should focus on making the best software available, you do that, and consumers will notice, they may not purchase immediately but in time they will transition to the better software and the better hardware capabilities.

Gears of War and it's sequel are some of the coolest games I've ever played. Sure, the dialogue is corny... but nearly every action game's script is (Metal Gear being the exception). Don't know why people rip on it. Maybe cuz it's not a Playstation game. Anyway, GoW is looking to be even better than GeoW.

Gears 1 and 2 both raised the bar for gaming in general. In graphics and other areas. They rank as some of my favorites of all time. But as of right now, I would say the graphics benchmark was set by MGS4. That game was gorgeous. And will be tough to beat out. I don't forsee God of War 3 topping MGS4. The only game I have seen screenshots of that might come close is Uncharted 2.

I think it is funny when people say the GOWIII footage looked bad. These people must be insane. I downloaded the 1080p trailer on PSN, and it looks amazing.

hmm gears 2 on my 52 inch samsung 1080p looks almost as good as mgs4 gears 2 has better like texture but thats because gears 2 is set in an different environment than mgs4 if gow3 makes gears 2 look garbage idk man i dont think i'll believe that until i see some proof VGA vid was just alright didnt make me wet myself it was just a omg cuz this is actually the 1st time i seen GOW is HD

He's only said this 3 times. and the only reason is 1. because people keep mis understanding that he wasnt talking about the VGA footage and 2. because people keep asking him to repeat himself. The only hype being generated is by people who wont just accept his comment at face value and waitto see the footage he was refering to.
Stop constantly trying to question the man's integrity and the hype wont be any bigger than it should be until such time as it warrants getting more attention.

@23.... Yah uncharted i think has some of the best graphics yet. Uncharted 2 looks even better. I haven't played gears 2 yet so i can't compare on an HDTV. To me it sounds like GodofWar3 is gonna be a kick @s$ game
