September PS3 sales see ‘double-digit growth’

U.S. PlayStation 3 sales for the month of September 2011 yielded significant growth, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has revealed.

Patrick Seybold, SCEA’s Corporate Communications Director, confirmed that the NPD’s report for last month recorded "double-digit growth for both PS3 software (52%) and hardware (20%), as increasing brand awareness continues to fuel interest with consumers."

Sadly Sony’s effort wasn’t enough to topple Microsoft’ Xbox 360, which moved 438,000 units to secure a 42 percent share of the current console market. To date, the system is still the highest-selling home console in North America for 2011.

Meanwhile, Madden NFL 12 topped the software charts for September, fending off the likes of Gears of War 3, Dead Island and FIFA 12.
