Konami’s famed music composer Akira Yamaoka has revealed that he is working on a major new project, having recently completed work on the company’s forthcoming next-generation entry in the Silent Hill series; Silent Hill 5.

While details are scarce, Yamaoka-san was able to divulge that his role has expanded beyond that of a composer for the new project, having also taking the reigns of supervisor.

"I can't say much about it yet, but it should be announced soon, probably," he said.

Elsewhere, he spoke of the upcoming Silent Hill 5, describing the music in the game to possess that of a Dolby surround quality, despite not being exactly revolutionary.

"There’s nothing to say that we need to just have static state changes all the time," added Yamaoka. "There’s no limit. You really should be able to make the sound respond to the players' actions or movements."

Silent Hill 5 pits gamers in the shoes of Alex Shepherd; a war veteran who returns from overseas duty to discover his brother and mother has mysterious vanished. Shepherd’s travels eventually lead him to the ominous town of Silent Hill, where he must fight of hordes of grotesquely deformed creatures in an effort to locate his missing family.

Silent Hill 5 is due out on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2008.
