So you want to work for Sony?

It’s probably every gamer's dream to get paid to play videogames. Sony announced today it is hosting open casting calls for a new original program for the PlayStation Network called “The Tester.” The show follows a group of gamers as they face-off in elimination style competition, testing their mental toughness, endurance, and video game knowledge. The winner gets a job working as a game tester at PlayStation Quality Assurance department in San Diego, CA.
If you think you have what it takes, fill out the online application form and upload a short video explaining why you’re the best contestant for “The Tester.” Below is a little video about the competition. PSU would love to hear that one of our readers made it into the competition, so best of luck!

You missed out the apostrophe in "every gamer's dream".
Why, you're becoming quite the Mike Harradence.
Still, I can never dislike either of you in the way that I do Hillary Goldstein of IGN. How dare he get to review TWO of my favourite games of all time!

I was a tester at NCsoft. You get treated like bottom of the barrell employees and the pay is pretty crappy.
I fell asleep testing a game once, being a QA Tester shouldn't be anyone's dream.. not unless you want a GOOD career that is.

This is just another attempt by corporate America to oppress the handicap population.
What about all the handless or thumbless's?! No one ever thinks of us Joe 4 fingers! We just ask for an equal opportunity to compete! Either even out the field or we walk., or hobble.

@20 To my knowledge, being a QA Tester is considered a "starter job" in the gaming industry and usually when someone wants to work in that biz this is one of the most likely jobs their gonna be offered at first. In life in order to have a good career you should always look to start at the bottom and work your way to the top. That's what makes a good and successful professional. Or so I have been told by my graduate studies professors/acquaintances with good careers. If you don't learn have to cope with getting "kicked around" by the people above you how can you ever hope to be the one doing the "kicking"? ;-)
This sounds like a sweet gig but, damn, US only? That sucks. Regardless, I think this is yet another way of life telling me to stay away from these kind of "reality TV" kind of "opportunities".

Good Lord why would ANYONE want to be a tester of any kind? Sorry but the people who want or wish this or feel like this would be a dream are completely insane! Imagine starting testing an unfinished product ... over ... over and over ... and over .... and over again ... for months ... maybe years in some cases! So you've played this awful product that's messy as noone's business, filled with bugs ... and finally they get to the stage it's not buggy anymore, and you hate it. You hate that tripleA title you always wanted to play and love.
Not worth it :(
Testers also get paid very badly. -

Any gamer who thinks QA is a dream job is obviously confusing "permanent (casual) beta tester" with "Quality Assurance"
Beta Testers for Halo 3 or Warhawk or LBP or Mag just play games... They play and then they can, if they like, report faults with the game. Or they can go on their blogs and complain about the fact they don't like Master Chief's new outfit and how unfabulous he is.
QA... QA is what happens when you mix game playing with slavery... While you are TECHNICALLY also beta testing, you're doing so without freedom. You have to play this buggy, ugly piece of crap for 8 hours or more a day, doing a lot of redundant things, intentionally trying to break the game and keep copious and thorough records (don't like to write? Don't do QA)
I've said it many times... Anything fun can be ruined by turning it into work. It's why I don't want a fun job. I want a Job I'm OK with, so I can retreat to my fun things when I'm done. -
