Sony has confirmed that it has no plans to make any announcements regarding a price cut for its PlayStation 3 console at the upcoming Leipzig Games Convention next week.
Speaking with Reuters, Sony Computer Entertainment spokesperson, Nick Chaplin, revealed that the European games fair would not play host to any such announcement.
"It's not going to happen. If you're coming for that you'll be disappointed," Chaplin said.
While it remains to be seen exactly what Sony plans to unveil as part of the 12 announcements mentioned by SCEE boss David Reeves, we can at least rule out any possibility of price drop.
Hopefully though with production costs now lowering, we may see a further price reduction before the end of the year.

Yeah, I'm the same way. I so disagree with Sony on this, but #1 is right, it is selling well. It just seems like they could really explode with a surprise price cut. Even if it's temporary. A November-December price cut to entice people over the Holiday season. Among the hardcore, word's already filtered down that it's better than the other one.

I bought our ps3 the day it was released, but the reality is that Sony needs to lower the price again OR bundle something like Ratchet and Clank with every system in the U.S. Sales are not that good and the economy over here is getting a lot better but still isn't good enough for a "normal" family to drop $400 on a PS3. If Sony wants those people then they need to hit the $300 mark ASAP. Granted that is easy for me to say since I don't have to eat the cost, but if they want to have a shot of getting close to Nintendo and not loose to Microsoft this holiday season, then they will need a price drop. They "could" also bundle LBP with every console and keep the $400 price tag, but I doubt they will do that.

They already made the new 80GB console $400, so there's no need right now. Ironically, the 360 Elite is now the most expensive console.

I'm not saying they will cut the prices, but they made the same claim last year before the price cut. So don't expect it, but don't count it out. They even said the same about rumble.

announcing a price cut when they have a immensely strong lineup is totally unnecessary ... ps3 ftw.
personally I think they should put the price up ... after all who wants a bunch of scallys hanging round Home anyway?
