Sony: Resistance 2 to go "toe-to-toe" with Gears 2

Scott Steinberg, Vice President of Product Marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), has said that he expects Insomniac’s forthcoming Resistance 2 to go "toe-to-toe against Gears of War 2” when both games launch later this year.
Speaking to Gamesindustry.biz, Steinberg commented, I think one of the biggest games for us will be Resistance 2. We expect that, in November, to go toe-to-toe against Gears of War 2.”
"It will be our third-generation PS3 product. Insomniac, having shipped Resistance 1, quietly sold a million units. And then Ratchet & Clank last fall. This is the third on their technology shipping in November."
He also offered insight into Sony’s relatively low profile at the Game Developers Conference last week, adding, “It just felt stronger coming from so many different high-calibre partners as opposed to self-congratulatory announcements from ourselves that the war is over and the standards battle is complete, and we have a standard and it is us.”
"It just felt like a keynote would be a little bit over the top,” he said.

Am I the only one who feels we are comparing apples and oranges?? Resistance is a FIRST-PERSON SHOOTER!!! Gears is a THIRD-PERSON SHOOTER!!! Two different playing styles of the Shooter genre. Personally, I had more fun playing Resistance than Gears, although I haven't really enjoyed many games from Epic (including Unreal Tournament III).

ok i love both games but will be buying RFOM2 mainly for the campaign. I dont see where people say that gears had a better online play? gears only hd 3 game types and 8 players?????????????? I just this gears is a better shooter and the cover system is so great fun and easy to use. anyways i cant wait to add these two gmes to my inventory

GeoW was fun online 4 about 3 weeks and I neva actually finshed the whole game but beat final boss and it sucked.Thought rfom wasnt too great either cuz 25-30 shots are needed to kill a chimera. But geow story is nonexistent.

Resistance will probably be better game wise, but Gears will win the battle. You can't really go toe-to-toe with a game built on an FPS machine. Shooters just feel right on the 360. Could Killzone 2 possibly add to the fray? Interesting...

as much as i love smugging something in xbox faces gears is a totally diffrent game 1st peson to 3rd person isnt in the same league as one another. gears is unrivaled and resistance will be when it comes out.

Well i love Rsistance and I will definately be gett Resistance 2 but I don't think it will beat Gears Of War... The Xbox just has a bigger install base and everyone that has an Xbox will be getting Gears 2 even if it's just to "beat" the PS3... So unless ALL the PS3 owner get Resistance 2 it won't be much of a battle especially in th U.S... But else where in the world where M$ doesn't have the market by the balls it will be very interesting to see who comes out on top....

Can i be honest without causing any flame wars against sony fanboyism as it's not intended in any shape or form, though i really place ps3 no1 in the next gen console war and believe ps3 will win the console war, but though i liked (RFOM) and thought the multiplayer was very good and the SP was good it's not in (gows) league this game has the best graphics i've ever seen on a console, the multiplayer was it's best asset especially with the chainsaw kills and the tactics needed to play it, the SP was good especially the hammer of dawn weapon and ability to cut the locusts in half awesome game, and i'm looking forward to both titles though my xb360 is now gathering dust in the corner since i bought my ps3 at launch.

i just think killzone would be a better match because it has a cover system to compete with GeoW2 which is a third person shooter. Actuality they shouldn't go up against each other at all because their different genres. I'm not saying which game will be better but when it comes to selling GeoW will sell more due to a large base of 360 fans and install base, like i said first day @ launch Resistance 450,000, GeOW 2 700,000, dont think it's going to top the 1.5 million at launch like Halo 3 did.

The thing is GeOw is a TPS and R2 is a FPS .. how do you compair the games...
