Rich Marty, Vice President of New Business Development at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment believes that the PlayStation 3 is essential to the progress of Blu-ray and that there's a lot to look forward to in the future.
In a fit of excitement he exclaims, “PS3 is critical to the success of Blu-ray – it is a platform for at least the next 10 years and it’s not some kind of short term solution.”
“We predict some really exciting market developments around PlayStation in coming months." Although he believes many of PS3’s early adopters focus on just the games, the "next wave" will be geared towards the PS3's media centre capabilities.
Alluding to the past, Marty says, "We saw this with PS2 and DVD where the console was integral to DVD’s rapid establishment. We anticipate a similar reaction with PS3 and Blu-ray disc.”
Numerous reports suggest that Blu-ray is performing leaps and bounds better than its rival HD DVD. This is usually attributed to the Blu-ray player installbase created by the PS3, which recently edged over the 6 million units worldwide mark.

Made more interesting now that they announced that blu ray stand alone players are outselling HD-DVD players.

The mistake microsoft made was the non inclusion of an hd dvd player in the 360. imagine 10 million 360s with hd dvd inside. thats 10 million hd dvd players. But give it to Ken the guru Kuteragi. Now people wont criticise his decision to include blu ray in every ps3. Seems microsoft never believed in a format it backed. Why the non inclusion if they really believed. Sony rules.FOREVER!

This is just the same old PR clip regurgitated and spat out over and over to make up something about Bluray – FFS I mean where is the news in this? Duh... All this has been said before. Usman Ihtsham do us and yourself a favour and ask Sony PR to pass you something that at least sounds like you wrote a story. I mean you want to be a real Journo when you grow up dont you?

Well, If Sony Pictures believes that the PS3 is so critical, why aren't they helping Sony Computer Entertainment. Throw a few movies on the struggling PS store....Or do they want to watch the PS3 and blu-ray die and say "I told you so"....then release Spiderman 4 on HD-DVD

i was one of the first million people to get a PS3.... i am aware of its power, and i use it to play blu-ray movies every chance i get... i don't think the early adopters got it for gaming at all... there wasn't many games to "game on"...lol... i've put more movies then games in that disk drive... lets face it... the PS3 does more, and has the potentiel to do more than even your home PC.... or at least more easily when it comes to obtaining HD material.... there still charging $20 for new dvds at some places.. with the Blu-ray version right next to it for usually only $5 more.... Sony has done everything to make blu-ray surpior... we need to use "word of mouth" advertising... show off your PS3 and its capabilities to your friends.... convince them... PS2's success was largly due to word of mouth advertising... i don't know how many ppl i got to get a PS2 as a dvd player....
