Sony admits they revealed Home "too early"

PlayStation Home game director Peter Edward has conceded that Sony may have announced the service “too early,” recalling the online social platform’s unveiling at the Game Developers Conference two years ago.

“Initially, there was real excitement from people, because we were showing something really different and that had a lot of potential,” Edward told Develop.

“And then there’s the realisation that, well, we probably announced it too early – GDC 07 was a long time ago. I think there was sort of recognition amongst developers of ‘Oh, this is interesting, but there’s still a lot of work to be done.”

Edward also revealed how some developers expressed some reluctance in testing Home’s waters following its announcement, describing initial feedback as “a bit thin on the ground.”

“The feedback we’ve been getting is that, in the early days, it was a bit thin on the ground in terms of support and tools,” he said, adding, “but now it’s mature and everybody’s starting to produce some really interesting stuff.”

“As soon as developers start seeing what other people have done, it really starts to build on the excitement, and now it’s at a really nice stage where people realise that it’s not that difficult, and also that the possibilities are pretty vast. So we’re back at the exciting stage again.”

iHustle-, Since last year it was know it would be out in an open beta form, just like Gmail. Also there they never said that the 'proper' version would be out by the end of the year.

I think they thought it would still be hit no matter how early they brought it out

I just got in once, tried again but they wanted me to download the areas again so meh. Plus it is not something that appeal to me although it is a good place maybe to "get together" with a clan or with other friend abroad to just chat.

Home is great met alot of CoD and LBP players but i usually go on when my friends are on to go shoot pool or bowl. I do agree that they unveiled it to early but I'm glad that they can admit that it was a wrong move

And in other news, scientists have discovered that the sky is blue. =P It's cool, though. Home is amazing, and Sony owns the competition.

It was actually Kotaku's fault for Home being released too early.

@10 ROLMAO! (thats right i said roflmao you wanna fight about it?)

but home is a little shoddy i dont really use it. it must be gay for them though, like spending tons of money in making what they thought is a ground-breakin project for  years, and then they release it and people are like: this is $h!+.

@13 trophies in Home ... for what exactly.  Craziest thing I ever geard.  On that note trphies are a joke.  You get this for scratching your bum in some games while others are near impossible to get without online cheating.

Back to topic ... home is severly lacking in the basics.  Not just the third party content which should help matters but home square needs a serious overhaul.  Hopefully we'll see an upgrade before the year is out.
