PlayStation 3 has shipped 50 million units worldwide as of March 29, 2011, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has revealed.
In addition, the hardware manufacturer also confirmed that global shipments of its PlayStation Move peripheral have topped the eight million mark as of April 3.
PS3 launched in November 2006 alongside Sony’s dedicated online service, PlayStation Network, which has drummed up over 75 million registered accounts worldwide. Global sales of PS3 software, meanwhile, have topped the 480 million milestone.
Microsoft announced it had sold through 50.8 million Xbox 360 consoles globally back at CES in January 2011.
