Sony glad Nintendo is Broadening Market

At Leipzig, SCEE President David Reeves stated that he thinks market expansion is a wonderful driving force in the gaming industry. Market expansion builds and broadens the market for the casual market. He stated, "We're very happy Nintendo broadened the market to where we have never gone. But Sony is going places where EA and Microsoft have never been. We're very happy about [market expansion]."

Despite recognizing the casual market's attraction to the Wii, Reeves also states that it were Sony's original innovations such as the EyeToy, SingStar, and Buzz! from the past on the PS2 that first marked a broadening of the market.

To further comment on how the PlayStation 3 itself attracts to the casual market, Reeves responded that the PS3 won't receive a price cut---at least in Europe. He claims that the starter packs work very well, and the soon-to-be initiate of the "bundle plan" will reap further benefits.

As long as Sony sells their console and have it all planned out, no one should be the bit worried. Price cut or no price cut.

I wouldnt say nintendo is broadening the market to to much. Sony started broadening it with Eye toy on the ps2 and now the sixaxis motion sensoring. The wii is lacking good graphics therefore going for a more casual gamer.

Sony is know for their great gaming experience with the eye toy as an example. Nintendo has a better one, but who will be playing the wii in ten years?

Sony has made the PS3 to be expanded upon.  The wii does have its place, but it seems limited in graphic capabilities.  The games of the PS3 and its accessories will get better.

Actualyl I can agree that Sony has reached an interesting market.

Basically what I am saying is that, the PS3 is the sophisticated console.

Wii is bad machne, just look at the machine and see what is the difference between WII and GAMECUBE, just about 1 percent. Its very stupid to camper ps3 great console to a stupid wii. If nintendo will give me a free wii and money wiht it, i wouldnt take that stupid wii. PS3 FOR LIFE.

i like the way sony goes on about this long term strategy, and that they will continue to broaden the market in other ways but why do people here think that it will last for ten years?  I mean,  microsoft 360 wont last that long so they'll bring out another console, and Nintendo will do the same(i think they have a good strategy, reaping in the money this gen as they failed last gen, and then they will have enough money to really build something amazing!), so they can GREATLY improve on what the ps3 has and rip it to shreds! Sony will be forced to bring out ps4 earlier than planned because the ps3 wont be able to compete!

    so

GET IT INTO YOUR HEADS- PS3 AINT GONNA LAST 10 YEARS NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS, and before ye go off on one, i love my ps3, and am in a clan called DSI on CoD3-my username is ATREBLEDIPTRIP or IBJUICYD!!!

psn id: gingo.... i think having a console for casual gamers is great aswell because most people with wii's will eventually buy a 360 or a ps3 and it's up to sony to make it the ps3

Only, its ashame Sony arent KEEPING the starter pack happening in Aus. Besides, I was supposed to get my free Blu-Ray disc and it never came (after 60 days of waiting and many emails to Sony) so i'm extremely p*ssed with them at the moment.

Juicyd, When did MS EVER say they were going for 10 yrs? Never correct? ok so why bring up that 360 wont last 10 yrs we all know that. On top of that you love your ps3 and yet doubt it. Dude look at PS2 lasted 5-6 yrs and it STILL dominating today. The ps3 can be brought up to OpenGL 4.0 which is the same 5hit as DX 11 which is not even out yet. Regardless if they come out with new systems PS3 will dominate with core power and the spu's and resx chip for the system is already patened to be used in a gaming console. So think about it what do MS and nintendo have to do? well make new hardware. on top of that Sony is the one that provides most of the hardware to every major company. Sony wins money regardless and they know what they are doing. Think about what u say dude and dont degrade yourself with what you say.

well juicyd i'm glad for you that you feel its necessary for someone to burn money every 4-5 years on a console that'll never reach it s true pinnicle (i.e. xbox). i'll gladly take ps2 and or ps3 over microsoft anyday. at least sony make you feel you got your money worth when buying their console.
