It is now Black Friday and the Christmas shopping season is officially here. This is probably these more crucial times in the year not only for Sony, but for Nintendo and Microsoft as well.
Each powerhouse company is going to want the consumer to choose their product over the other in efforts to gain an extra step in this already heated console race. For Sony, there is no other option; media exposure is a key strategic move in order to win over the consumer.
Specified for the UK, a new TV campaign will emerge for the PlayStation 3 that will showcase the major functionalities of the console, such as Blu-Ray, games, and processing power.
"To compete in such a competitive market it is important for Sony to get a multi-media message out there to differentiate the product from rivals," said games analyst at Screen Digest, Piers Harding-Rolls.
The add, created by TBWA/London, is set to launch on British airwaves next month with supporting ads to hit shortly beforehand.
"The new campaign is designed to showcase the wealth of entertainment available on PlayStation 3," said Alan Duncan, Marketing Director at Sony Computer Entertainment UK.
In conjunction with this, Sony is place GBP 1 million into highlighting three of its exclusive titles, such as the upcoming music title Singstar. The PlayStation 3 is projected to overtake the Xbox 360 in worldwide sales in 2008. By pulling of a successful holiday season, this would be a turning point for the PS3 after it got off to a slow start in late 2006.

I think people want to also see the games being played on the ps3 in this advertising campaign, so show them fatal inertia because just reading over on eurogamer is that the ps3 version of this game is better than the xbox360 version, so scrap this is living with some bird on the karzie with a mask on because it just don't work.

The EU/UK ads should be the same as those brilliant US ones we were shown on the PlayStation Blog recently, featuring game footage and the Saliva soundtrack.
This advert was put on the UK Store for download a few weeks back, and I thought it sucked then. C'mon SCEE - we need better than this! Those US ads are so good that I even made myself a theme for my K750i featuring PS3 images and a clip of 'Ladies and Gentlemen' as the ringtone!

Judging by the comments above all PS3 gamers are 12 years old. Or maybe it's just PSU readers.
Look, the idea of the commercial is not to sell a game, therefore it is not necessary to put game footage in it. It is emotional marketing, something that will imprint curiosity in the potential purchaser's mind when she sees it. And yes, our sensibilities in Europe are different, so judging the ad based on American sensibilities is as valid as us judging your macho-BS PS3 campaigns based on ours.
Besides, the most lucrative gamer market is not teenage boys, but mature adults who can appreciate the creativity and originality of (European) PS3/PS2 campaigns.

I was watching SpikeTV over at a buddy's house, and I couldn't believe all of the cool PS3 ads. Seriously, every commercial break had atleast 2 PS3 commercials. The best part of the ads was "Playstation 3, starting at $399". Hopefully that kicks the holidays into high gear!

I like the fact that it explains the technology, but the should show the technology as well. I didnt see one PS3 or BD symbol in that commercial. Show the Cell like intel does, then show HD clips of great games as you say faster processing, not some freaky cowboy shooting rainbow bullets at a claymation Borat.......too weird for me, I like the NA commercials WAAAAAAY better.,

wether or not your american or european or japanese the sensibility may be one issue but sony needed to hit the focal point on the head. To me the advert. didn't specify why we should get a PS3 their were no comparison. It needed to show some proof as to why it's a better system. their were metaphors and all but the ad should be meant for everybody to understand not everyone is brilliant in their minds.
other words im saying..... show why Blue ray is better than HD-dvd, show more of the media aspect and functionalities that are in the PS3, lastly show why PS3 is better than the Xbox 360 through the games (they're doing great on this part in NA). If I was them I would flaunt about the numbers they racked up with the PS2 vs. the Xbox. Sold over 120 million units!! than xbox's 25 million.
