According to the latest sales figures, the Sony PlayStation brand remains particularly strong in the self-proclaimed “PlayStation Nation”, New Zealand, where all three of the companies systems currently occupy the top three positions in the region.
PlayStation 2 held the top position for the month of November, selling a total of 3,926 units, followed by the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable at positions two and three, respectively. Sales figures for the PS3 and PSP are not available, however.
Warwick Light, General Manager of Sales and Marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand, commented, "Less than a year after launch, the PlayStation has been embraced by serious gamers and home entertainment enthusiasts alike, making the PS3 the top selling ‘next generation’ console in November 2007.”
"In fact, since its launch on 23 March 2007, the PS3 has been the top selling ‘next generation’ console overall, selling 15,172 units.”
Sony’s fortune looks set to continue into 2008, with analyst predicting that PS3 in particular should make its mark around the globe with the influx of several highly anticipated and exclusive software titles, including Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Final Fantasy XIII.
