Sony lists "Dos" and "Don'ts" for LBP user levels

Earlier in the week we reported that certain LittleBigPlanet levels were being deleted by Sony moderators for reasons of copyright infringement. Having held its cards to its chest for a couple of days, the publisher has sent CVG an official response.

Here's the important snippet:

"The vast majority of content uploaded to date has been fun and suitable for all of our community members. In a very few cases we have upheld complaints regarding unsuitable content or infringement of intellectual property, with less than 0.5% of levels actively moderated as a result of complaints from other users.

"Sony Computer Entertainment are committed to continually improving our moderation procedure and the methods of communication we use, in particular regarding the reasons that user complaints are upheld. In the meantime, here are some suggestions for all of our creators:

* Ensure that the content you share with other users is suitable for all ages - everybody has access to your level if you publish it

* Please respect other people's intellectual property rights. For example, don't use images, brands or logos that you're not entitled to use.

* If you come across any content that you feel the need to report, then please do it responsibly. Hoax reports will be considered inappropriate behaviour.

"Thanks to everyone that has contributed to LittleBigPlanet so far. Keep enjoying yourselves!"

I'm glad to hear people aren't ruining this game for the most part.  My only major concern for this game was that some people would be inappropriate or blatantly annoying, etc...  so far, looks like everybody just want a game to enjoy and have fun with.  That's great.

Will the creator be made aware of any complaints about the level or will Sony have to contact the creator manually prior to deleting the level?

they need to keep the music levels though, those are some of the best, and it's like a cover anyways, it's not like they're selling the music on lbp... everybody go on youtube and look up "LBP airman" someone did the theme for the airman lvl in megaman 2, it's amazing... but it got moded in the game... it's unfortunate because it was so amaizing

psn id: gingo... quite a basic set of rules, its not hard to make a level similar to another games without breaching copyright it just takes a bit of thought

I never really understand this. Are there any companies out there who are really going to object to getting free advertising?

Never was interested in LBP, and after speaking with a freind who had played the demo, he said that it was pretty fun but wasn't going to purchase the game if they were going to be deleting some really fun levels with characters from video games that we all know and love. Looks like LBP is out at least two more copies.

The thing is, if another developer one day decides THEY want to make a LBP level themselves in order to advertise a game and someone else comes along and makes one that isnt so good first, that risks damaging the property in the consumer's eyes. If the level is going to be built the 3rd party would want it to be up to THEIR standards not those of an unpaid hobbiest.

There was a really cool Gradius level someone in Japan made, it's really too bad it's probably gone now but Konami has every right to ask for it to be removed if they dont want to be associated with another developer's game.

The thing is if the creator of that level made the attempt again and didnt use copyrighted graphics (they were stickers and materials shaped exactly like the real thing so close enough) then maybe it would stay next time. But anyway LBP is about creativity, and the fact of the matter is that copying someone elses creation no matter how cool it looks in LPB isnt really being creative, it's being derivitive.

I hope they don't take down Mario or Sonic levels. Those are good for nostalgia and not direct ports (obviously) so they should be permitted. I'm working on something now that replicates a popular franchise from the 16 bit era and if it gets removed I'd be a little ticked.
