I doubt they will top CoD4 in sales or players because of the cross-platform selling.  I played a little of SOCOM on my friend's PSP but I think I'll look into this as my first entry into the SOCOM series.  Disc for me, in case I don't get Warhawk and it's BT headset by then.

Socom is the best online game better than warhawk n COD 4 ..

ppl still be playing socom for ps2 online they still be getting new maps and new updates for free           socom it more fun to play online better than other games out there

CoD4 is far better than socom.......

Socom is the Playstation's most successful tactical Online 3rd person shooter, and I definanlty think it will be successful. It's just amazing because Sony has exclusive games in nearly EVERY genre. I think that Socom Confrontation should do well, but there isn't too much hype around this game. Sony should definanlty advertise Socom several months before it's release to get people in the mood for the game.

the two games  couldn't be more different.  COD4 is first person, mostly respawn based, run and gun, mindless shooter with almost zero community features and Socom is a tactical third person shooter, non respawn based thinking as well as relfex skill, not to mention the FAR superior clan and community support. 

And you get to pick what map/maps you want to play not just get stuck randomly being put into room.  Also the room doesn't crash when the host leaves, you get more than just 3 attachments for your weapons.  You choose how you look, what you want to play and day/night settings. 

No one will be playing COD4 by May, Socom Confrontation will have atleast 30,000 players on (70,000 during peak hours) until the next Socom comes out.  Go to the Socom forums, check out Socom.com  They just released a map pack for the PS2 Socom 3/CA.  That means the fan base is big enough to warrant a FREE map pack on a dying system.

I've been playing Socom for 5 years, CoD4 is not a fraction as addictive as the first 2 games in the Socom series.  It is the best online game, the perfect mix of gameplay, realism, teamwork and fun.  I'm not saying I don't like CoD4, its fun and all but its the same old same old and who is going to be playing it after GTA4 and MGS4 come out?  No one, thats who. 

Top reason Socom is better  = Socom is PS3 exclusive and will always be as it is a SCEA IP.

Well, you can play all you want with socom and it will never top CoD4.....Though, you say socom is quite more brainy, but i say why complicate yourself when CoD4 is more challenging and more FUN....and I know when GTAIV / MetalGearSolid all-s will halt........Hey thanks for the fyi.... Sorry dawg it is just too slow for me......maybe i'm just a fast-paced type of a shooter

I played SOCOM in my PS2 and it was AWFUL! I returned it instantly.

socom is a far better game than cod4 but every1 knows that mindless shooters prevail, look at halo every1 plays it because its easy and simple and when cod4 came out it toped the charts in the online service so if you look at the pattern socom will only scratch the surface of cod4 only hardcore gamers will play this, everyone els dosent even know anything about socom. I hope im wrong and it will beat out cod4 but we will see soon.

It will have to be absolutely amazing in order to beat CoD4.  When it comes to graphics and gameplay, Cod4 is amazing, but I loved the way Socom made it a team effort, and if you die, you die.  I just hope that is not what it will look like, because right now, the graphics can't touch CoD4.

I purchased COD4 and i have to say, It was a fantastic game, but it isnt as good as Socom, not only that COD4 is not addicting, I myself have been playing Socom for about 3 years, the first time I plugged Socom 2 Online my LIFE changed, literally I would log about 6 to 7 hours a day, during the weekends wouldnt even go to sleep because it was so addicting, Socom, you cant compare to COD4, completely better and different, more strategy based teambased, and you play Socom3 right now you can easily identify the types of tactics you need to use with certain maps. Socom revolutionized how I played online.

If you're 11, keep playin COD4.  If you're a big boy, buy socom.

I agree that COD4 has raised the bar, but let's remember that it is the SOCOM franchise that revolutionized online play in this genre.  COD4 has incredible graphics and great gameplay, but SOCOM should be able to take it to the next level (beyond just a great respawn game, for example).  No reason they can't both be great games!

I used to love socom but what really brought me away from the game was the lack of split screen, so i wasnt able to play WITH my friends when they were over but rather i would try, die, hand the controller over to my friend, he would die, he would give me the controller, rinse and repeat.  I sure hope they have a 2+ game mode not online

socom is great, but i doubt it will top the charts. CoD4 is good cuz it can appeal to both idiots and gamers. but if your an idiot in socom, your just going to get killed, get frustrated that you cant respawn and quit the game.

if they had slipt screen online, that would rock my socks. otherwise i'l go with the 'you get 2 lives and i get 2 lives' cycle.

listennnn broskeees wit two heninikins....back in the day i played socom 1 and 2 errr dayy errr night non stop and it was the sickest game eeverrrrr....now i play cod4 alot not eerrr day err night cuz i got lax till 8 at night but its still a reall sick gameeee ....i do think that this socom will bee sick buuttt i dont think it will take cod4 out of its number one spot in the online place...it will be reall tight like ya mama butt itll be cod4 on the top still i think i have to see this game first

My only real experience with Socom is the original for PS2 and it turned off because of crapy AI and shoty game play. After talking with many of my friends from COD 4 though, I think I will give Confrontation a try.

yup this game is beat it because one of my friend says Warhawk is harder than CoD4 because tops and bros playing warhawk that's the spirit XD socom 2 was really good can't forget that one :)

False rumor. Sony dosent make headsets, if it's sony branded it'll just be a Jabra or Motorola with the sony name stenciled on the side just like the first USB headset was just a Logitech. I do think it'll come with one since they pretty much said it would when they first announced the game.

I love COD4.  Love it.  But Sony already has my money for this.  SOCOM's online community is no joke.  On a system with no real online (PS2), SOCOM was an online beast.  All SOCOM has to do IMO to be better than COD4 is let me have a weapon with a silencer AND a red dot scope, lol!  Seriously, though.  If they add even more role-play elements (ie. 1-up the "perks" system), it will already be a better game.  But the guy above that said all the team objective stuff will turn off the mindless masses, HE's RIGHT!  People can't stand not being able to respwn 100 times, and they don't want to think, AND MOST PEOPLE ON THE PSN STILL DON'T HAVE/USE HEADSETS (not good for teamwork, wouldn't you say?)  That's just the way dumb people are.

Socom 1 & 2 got me into online shooting, But since COD4 came out I have not seen anything come close to the level of Graphics & Gameplay. I will rent Socom First and try it out. I hope it has 4 player split screen offline like COD4. I wish They put out & support more of 4 player split screen I have Friends that come over twice a week and we have a blast and because of that it influence me on which games to buy.

@regissreg my opinoin is  (Warhawk is blast that enemy asses type game) and  (Socom is shoot hide run got him type game) and that  (CoD4 is shooot shooot run all over enemy shots you go hide this kinda game) soo man don't compare Socom to that CoD4

you people are insane... @ damnwrx, little do you realize that the day socom confrontation hits the shelf sony will sell 200,000 ps3's and over 1,000,000 copies of socom confrontation.  It has the best clan support, the most hardcore following, and it paved the way for online console gaming.  when the first socom was released it had to come with a network adapter and a headset! this game will sell more copies than microsoft has sold systems... 3 days outside a bestbuy waiting for ps3, only game ever going to buy for it?
