Sony loses Final Fantasy XIII exclusivity

It's official people, Final Fantasy XIII will appear on the Xbox 360.
During Microsoft's 90 minute E3 press conference, Yoichi Wada, president of Square-Enix, announced that Final Fantasy XIII would also be released on the Xbox 360. To clarify, that's outside of Japan, where the title will release first and be exclusive to the PS3. The game will release simultaneously on the PS3 and 360 in Europe and North America.
This has got to be a real blow to Sony, though they likely already knew the details far before the public announcement. Frankly though, we're a bit surprised that Sony wasn't willing to dig into its deep coffers to keep one of the biggest games of 2009 exclusive to its platform. As of now however, Final Fantasy Versus XIII appears to remain a PS3 exclusive.
While you may be down in the dumps at the moment, remember that Sony may have a trick or two of their own that we'll see at their E3 press conference tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Well I still plan on getting it for PS3 when released but Sony and SE from the beginning obviously had a deal for PS3 only and this just feels like a spit in the face for Sony and FF fans. I understand that SE in a trying to run a business and make money, but if they had a deal with Sony then they should just keep it regardless of how much money MS waved in their faces. I'm really not feeling the luv for SE right now. Oh well, guess this is the reality for 3rd party exclusives from now on.

Just out of curiosity, what would you guys said if it came down to one or the other. Would you rather give up MGS4 or Final Fantasy 13? I think that MS was bound to get one or the other. It became pretty clear when Sony went on and on about MGS4, but said nothing about FF13.

i dont know about u guys but im really pi$$ed. This along with Metal Gear Solid 4 were the only reasons why i bought my PS3. Name me 5 triple A games that Sony has exclusivly. GTA4, DMC4, RE5, Guitar Hero, and now FFXIII all went to M$!!! What does the PS3 have that M$ doesnt?! Sure we have RFM2 and KZ2 but im sick of FPS games. Where is the love Sony? I bought my PS3 as soon as it came out. Was I wrong...?

I remember a time when this hobby was so on the fringe, you got laughed at for playing as an adult. Now they think this junk is subject matter for movies, and couples with no children play together. But with that mainstream penetration came the real business end. Sure, Commodore, Atari, and of course the big "N" were always in it for the bucks, but how cutthroat the business has gotten is just astounding to see in real time. If you are my age (33), we actually saw it come to be. Now, I posted this sentiment a long while ago about how big business was choking the life out of the industry, killing everything that was fun about it. You knuckle-draggers just brushed me off, but how did you feel when you found out about FF13? You know that feeling you felt on the back of your tounge that made you rush to a forum to give you 2 cents? How many times have you felt that over the last 2 years. How about the 10 years before that. Not fun.
I cited that 80% of video games were crap. Licensed movie and comic book crap to seel to children. AND IT SOLD. Madden took a dent last year (13%), but EA got away with releasing the same game from 2001 to 2006 (and to an extent, 2007). What did you fanboys do about that. NOthing. Or worse, you bought it.
We had next-gen consoles costing $250-$600! The $250 one was just a rehash with an innovative controller.
Western Gamer tastes came to destroy all that is concole. The Japanese RPG is all but killed by western RPGs like Oblivion. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS! Through it all, everybody lost perspective Big companies, developers, publishers and FANS. Especially the fans. You let it all happen and didn't fight with your dollars (except waiting to get a PS3, but let's face it, people didn't wait to get a PS3 out of principal, the waited because they just didn't have the money).
Sony screwed this whole thing up one day one. They did it all for Blu-Ray, but I don't think they would say it was worth it. I've loved their products and vision, but they do not understand their consumers and they paid for it with market share they had no business losing. If I was SE (or anyone else MS paid off), I would have done the same thing. If Sony inspired the brand loyalty in their customers that they assumed they had, none of this would have happened. Instead, they came into this generation screwing Developers (all that crap with the dev kits), Customers ( NO games lined up), and ultimately, themselves. I got rid of my other console after Halo 3 came out, because back then, I thought it was going to be the 'FPS machine". MS LISTENED to that. THEY WERE CLUELESS TO THE FACT THAT FPS WEREN'T EVERYTHING, SO THEY CHANGED. Sony was one step behind. They still are. Anyway, it's clear that if I want to play the variety of games I THOUGHT I was going to get on the PS3, I need to get another "other console". I cannot believe how bad Sony screwed this up. I just can't believe it.

i figured square enix was going to go multiplat with the final fantasy franchise eventually but i thought it would be after the nova crystalis trilogy of games :P
At least its not going to be on the xbox exclusively, but im kinda interested now with how the game will turn out technicly speaking. If this was planned when they started deving does it mean that the game wont be as good as it could have been due to having to restrict it so the 360 will run it the same? Though if this wasnt fully planned from the start im now really doubt ing the whole, the ps3 can run thiungs the 360 can t argument. though im guessing the whole more people will get to experience the godlyness that is final fantasy is always a good thing.
oh yeah and i wonder how many discs the 360 version will need, its fairly safe to say the game is gonna be pretty huge.

Wow. I can't F_cking believe this. They were the only video game company I was interested in buying games from anymore. This is honestly just un-f_cking-believable. They lied to us guys. They sold out to Microsoft, and never again will we be able to get a decent game because we aren't getting any exclusives any more. If they do this for KH3 and Versus XII, I'm not buying them. I can't believe this, it's just totally uncalled for. Right now, I don't which emotion is stronger, sadness or anger. I hate Square Enix now. They just essential killed half my interest in video games

why so gutted a game that will not see the lights of day till 2010 in the us or europe, and that trailer was almost identical to the e3 06 trailer its not got much new, perosnally square enix are a company who have been pushing mince games recently and so dont be suprised if this game doesnt turn out to be as a good as the hype, oh yeah forgot to mention its still exclusive in japan on ps3

I hate to say it, but well done Microsoft. Sony will need to pull more than tricks from their sleeve tomorrow.
Also, in a press conference afterwards, Square Enix said that development on the Xbox 360 version would not start until they have finished the PS3 version. There were also hints that it will ship on multiple discs for the Xbox, so it can still take full advantage of Blu-Ray.

This is terrible as playstation loyalist not a fanboy I think this is terrible news once again we have benn dissed an it is a big deal to everyone sayin it's not becuase 360 is takin all the games an so far all the games that have came out muti we have got the crappy version no game that we have shared has been good graphically or gameplay wise if we don't get the games made exclusive than it's like the developer does'nt give a damn I don't like lyin to myself but it looks like are console is dyin video game wise because sony is not worried and is to cheap to buy exclusive some one pointed out somethin good wat's the use of 2 systems if the have the same games nuthin but this also falls on Square Enix for being disloyal not just with this but all year I don't even want a game from them but to tell you the truth I don't think nuthin at E3 from sony is going to top this news.

SE & every other japanese game developer seem to be going out of their way to put the screws to the PS3 & all the fans !! it goes to show M$ has allota money to burn !! however SONY is just to blame for not digging into their pockets to ensure certain games stay in the PS3 library !! i guess i'm just disappointed & pissed @ them

yeah i watched the conference live, when i saw that, i was so filled with rage i nearly popped.
Now i own both the 360 and PS3, and i was genuinely happy with the MS conference, until that point.
First, the Parasite Eve sequal is to be a japanese cellphone exclusive, Second the Star Ocean game is to be exlcusive on 360, and thirdly The Last Remnant getting a timed 360 exclusivity.
Ive been so sick of Squenix's b*** s*** since ffX2, ill buy Star Ocean and Infinite Undiscovery but only because theyre made by tri-Ace, a company i still have eons of respect for, but as for the rest of Squenix, they go go f*** their own eye sockets for the remainder of their lifespan. Im so sick of their s*** its rediculous.

Makes you wonder what the [expletive] is going on in the Sony offices. How could they let this happen? It just seems unpatriotic to allow a game like FFXIII to appear on another console other than Sony's. Like "DINAMO788" said, this will most likely be the BIGGEST announcement of E3 as no matter what Sony has up its sleeve it won't compare to this news. Outside of getting a day and date release of Gears of War 2, MS gets the win for this year's E3. I think we already know about every big announcement Sony is going to make. It's just a matter of them making it. I don't think ANYONE really saw the FFXIII deal coming (and my guess is Sony didn't see it coming either or didn't have enough time to stop it).

I just want to cry........Agree completely with the guy above me. Capcom.....Konami......and now Square Enix. I just cant process that through mi mind. "Final Fantasy XIII on 360"...that's a phrase that will stay in my mind forever.
The only way i'll be happy is if F^*** SQUARE ENIX BRINGS ALL THE f*** RPG'S IS REALEASING ON 360 TO PS3. BESIDES THAT, SONY SHOULD F*^*** WAKE UP AND DO SOMETHING, MS IS GETTIN ALL THE GOOD STUFF. WHAT THE F** IS HAPPEING TO THEM? THEY THINK THAT HOME WILL FIX EVERYTHING? WELL NO!!..........god.......i needed to shout a bit. Anger is running throug my veins. Oh well, ill just have to keep going. Still this game is coming to my ps3, with anger, but its still comming.

What's next? Kingdom Hearts 3 to the Wii? Only two ps3 games left that I want now are White Knight Chronicles and Final Fantasy versus XIII. Slim pickings.
@Imperium....compare the sales of God of War and Final Fantasy...it is a big deal. God of War has sold a little over 3 million copies. Final Fantasy X sold around 8 million copies. God of War II sold a little over 2 million copies, FFXII sold over 5 million copies.

i was upset when i watched and saw the trialer i just knew this was going to happen. But i realize that Sony will still be making money since they are suppose be 20% stakeholders in SquareEnix. Tomorrow the world will be watching to see what Sony will be showing. Home better be there as well as GOW3, as well as a possible price drop. Price drop would keep PS3 in the running for to spot.

This doesnt bother me in the least, at one point i probably would have been blind with rage over this, but i honestly dont care.
At least we all still get to play the game, at the end of the day for the consumer, all exclusives serve as is bragging rights so that gamers can beat thier chests over who is the superiour nerd through what thier console has as exclusives.
I prefer the ps3 as a system and aslong as the game performs aswell on ps3 as it does on 360 i dont care one bit.

Well if it's only FFXIII that lost exclusivity than I don't mind at all. FFXIII looks like a trash game anyways, I am only looking forward to FFXIII Versus as the next big RPG.

i'm not into rpg's and wasn't gonna buy this, but this is still extremely bad news for sony. but sony didn't NEED this title to win the war. this will still be the year of the ps3. i'm just glad mgs4 stayed exclusive, very glad, thanks kojima.

"We got FFxiii, 100 360 jrpgs aren't worth as much as 2 ps3 jrpg" Well that settles it. Im neutral from now on. Dont expect a *** from sony. Anyways they still got their 1st party and i think that was worth the ps3's cost.

the only way to get back on top is to reduce ps3 price meaning pricecut and also remaking ff7 exclusive to ps3. All I know is for now there is no way the ps3 and sony will be on top for this console war. Its over for them. THey are the nintendo 64 of this era. Here is an example when the 64 came out it had a lot of exclusives and it was a decent machine. Then sony came and the exclusive started to jump ship because of many reason. Little by little 64 lost most of its exclusives and just had its on games mario mario party smash brothers that was not enough to keep it on top. This is sony now I hate to say it but I will get a 360 soon like this week

i saw this live and i have to say i was like wtf Square-Enix really i myself have a ps3 and xbox 360 but i got a ps3 for the good games you know like MGS4 and heavenly sword and so on aswell i was thinking ff13 will be a ps3 exclusive i mean every video they showed said at the end Only for Playstation 3 now its like oh fu.ck you all fans that got a ps3 for this game and fanboys we making this game for both ?? really does Square-Enix know what they doing to there fans i really don't care that i have a xbox 360 aswell but i feel bad that is not only for ps3 i really think someone should do one of those Petition and sign to make it Only for Playstation 3 again!

dis is bull sh it 360 doesnt deserv to asociate its name with a old time play station exclusive. Tipical that ps works hard and builds up a great series then no good fu king 360 trys to steel it away. They did the same thing with gta4
