According to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony has confirmed a shipment of 85,000 PlayTV units to retailers in the United Kingdom.

Announced last year, PlayTV is a DVR device that allows PlayStation 3 users to watch and record television programs to their PS3 hard drive. Furthermore, PSP owners can access their recorded programs using the PSP Remote Play function.

The hardware was launched last week in the UK with over 9000 pre-orders. Over the coming months, Sony is expected to slowly release PlayTV in other European countries including a release in Australia. However, due to the use of ATSC digital standard in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico it is unlikely we'll ever see a release in North America.

This is good news and looks a good product but im not sure if you can copy the recorded programs to your PSP memory stick, lets face it your not always within range of wireless broadband. Does anyone know if this is possible?????

PlayTV uses the .m2ts extension for its recordings.  I have successfully transferred and played one of these on my PC so no DRM issues there.  I don't know if they can be played on PSP without conversion though.

you can play the stuff on your PSP no problems, just record the program you want through Play TV, then move the program from the Play TV menu (list of recorded programs) to your XMB, then if you copy it onto a memory stick & then on your PC transocde it to an MP4 format.. hey presto, jam it back onto you rpsp & your sorted. easy as pie.

Richkaos, not sure yet, I've only just got it and I've not had much time to play with it.  From the file extension it indicates that it's an mpeg2 file so it should be possible. I will try it and let you know.  Functionally though, it's a great bit of kit/software, it's fast and the picture is better than my V-box, the EPG menu's are really fast too.
