Sony suggests users should upgrade their own PS3 HD's

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia’s Michael Ephraim has addressed consumers who are anticipating the much rumoured 120GB PlayStation 3 console, suggesting that users should instead upgrade their own machines to the desired specification.

Speaking to The Age, Ephraim commented, "The hard drive issue, we've done it so you can upgrade the hard drive."

"It's non-proprietary, and you do have external hard drives," he explained, and pointed out that retailers may also stock PS3 consoles with increased hard drive capacity, specifically for when PlayTV launches.

"With PlayTV, yes you will need more storage”, he conceded. "As we all know, the price of hard drive space is coming down. If we do it, fine, but if we don't do it, the consumer will still have choice," Ephraim continued.

PlayTV is scheduled for release in Spring 2008.

www.quicksilverscreen.com is best site for getting movies! or cartoons or just about anything and the best part is they are all DIVX format! as soon as the divx update comes out for the ps3 my HDD is gunna be full!! They have lots of new movies as well like ones still in theatres most are good quality but some are cams.

There is an alternative to WD, I put in a Toshiba 320gb into my 60gb PS3, it is as quiet as a mouse and gave me 297gb once formatted!

I have a 320GB western digital that I bought for the same price as a 160GB 2.5" HDD! Some space cant be used, but the same thing hapens when you use a HDD in a computer so it didnt kome as a surprice. :) @hubhubla. DIVX already wors on the PS3! Cant belive you havent notised that;) thepiratebay.org is a nother (torrent) site with movies etc.

Meh let see how well PlayTV is recieved before you nuke your wallet with the 160gig. Always anticipate what it is and then analyze it before purchasing.

Play TV is like a TiVo for your PS3. So far only availible in european regions as far as I can tell.

Personally, Even though We dont have it in the US and probably wont have anything like it for some time I'm perfectly happy to just be more cautious about what I leave on my PS3 HD, I'm going to dump up a bunch of trailers and stuff onto an external drive for far less than the price of an SATA drive and wait until GAMES have forced me to upgrade. I mean if you can just plug in an external drive or a USB flash drive why leave all that stuff on the system?

is 300 as far as it goes? I really don't want to purchase on and then find out there'll be a double capasity one comming out in 2 years at the same price. and personally I prefer one thats internal not external.

I'm planning on upgrading mine as soon as i find time to shop around to get a good deal.  60 GB is fine for right now, but as time goes by i am going to need more space.
