Square: Final Fantasy Type-0 almost finished

Square Enix’s Hajime Tabata has confirmed that development on Final Fantasy Type-0 is nearing completion.

According to a post on the PlayStation Portable RPG’s development blog (translated by Andriasang), the team just needs to tune and debug and then it’s a wrap.

Square’s been beavering away at Type-0 for well over three years now, with the game originally conceived as a mobile title before development switched to Sony’s handheld. Of course, that was back when it was known by its former moniker, Final Fantasy Agito XIII.

Apparently, work on Parasite Eve romp The 3rd Birthday took up much of the team’s attention during that period, which Tabata says is why the game has taken so long to make.

Still, he added that fans should take comfort in the knowledge that a lengthy development cycle has meant the team have created a polished produced crammed with content. It’s a whopper too, shipping on two UMDs.

Final Fantasy Type-0 will be released in Japan in fall 2011.
