Square Enix plans to acquire Tecmo

Renowned RPG-maker Square Enix has revealed plans for a friendly takeover of Ninja Gaiden publisher Tecmo, according to a report by Reuters.
Square Enix has offered 920 yen per share for Tecmo stock, which represents a 30% premium over the company's closing share price yesterday of 708 yen. Should its takeover bid be successful, Square Enix intends to maintain Tecmo as a separate brand identity. Tecmo management has till September 4 to respond.
Those expecting high drama in the vein of Electronic Arts’ bid for Take Two Interactive will be disappointed, however, as Square Enix has stated that it will peacefully withdraw should Tecmo reject its offer.
The Final Fantasy creator cited market growth and the declining relevance of Japanese publishers as reasons for the move. "Games are globally recognized as a genre of entertainment, and the industry is attracting much attention for its market size and growth potential. But on the other hand, the Japanese game industry is facing a turning point as to whether or not we can stay at the core of the global market,” said the company.
Assuming it all comes to fruition, who's up for a little franchise fusion? Ryu Hayabusa to feature alongside Mickey Mouse in the next Kingdom Hearts title, perhaps? The mind boggles.

PLayed the second Kingdom Heart and it was horrible. Played it for I don't know how many hours and never saw a single disney character. gameplay was so basic even my 4 year old daughter got bored playing it. square enix are traitors so whatever happens hopefully it utlimately fails. Sony made them and now they turn on them.

The one japanese developer that used to be truely "friendly" to M$ under the control of the company that denied it FF13 in japan? That's actually GOOD new you dolts. And imagine the improvment in games. Stop acting all hurt over FF13 for god's sake we're STILL getting it, Japan is stil getting it first and STILL exclusive there for PS3, the only reason it's getting ported in any other region is because too many people bought the 36* elsewhere. Not to meantion this is the company that's STILL producing FF13 versus EXCLUSIVLY for PS3 which has been confirmed as many times as the fact that FF13 is still exclusive in japan!

Ninja Gaiden better not be Final fantasized. Ninja Gaiden 2 was amazing sadly damn Xbox frozed at chapter 10

Alpha2 has a point, but I'm not too sure if this is good news or bad for PS3 fans. I mean, Tecmo was always chummy w/MS and now SE is their new dance partner this gen. All this probably means that every game they make that isn't handle by Nomura is going to be on the 360 first.

Cloudie has a point. If they aquire tecmo the just might have inhouse ability to port thier titles for much cheaper/ less work than the alternatives.
This is probably a bad thing. FFXIII is probab;y exclusive in Japan just because they don't want the japanese gamers to wait any longer. Western gamers are going to have to wait anyways for the localization so it makes more sense to them.

If this means that PS3 gets Ninja Gaiden 2 then I'll be happy. Oh and everyone shut the H**L up about FF13, seriously grow up, moaning on here isn't going to change it. I don't want to read stupid comments like 'Get lost Square' and I'm sure other people don't.

Meh, don't really care about Square enix anymore, now your probably saying " oh another fanboi" "its still coming to the ps3 stfu" but reason i'm pissed off, its DELAYED again because its going multiplatform just to develop it on the 360.. what BS is that -_-

Talking about marken I rememeber they said long time ago that, EU and US producers are much better than japanese. ANd who is M$? whos as$ are you kissing Square? I hope you will get an Epic Fail with FF13.
I never finished even 12 with this Middleages story ling , got bored of this knight bul....t
