Square Enix talks FF Versus XIII PS3 exclusivity

Following the shocking news of Final Fantasy XIII going multiplatform, Square Enix has taken the opportunity to address its plans in regards to keeping Final Fantasy Versus XIII exclusive to the PlayStation 3.
In an interview with Square Enix Executive Shinji Hashimoto, it was revealed that not only will the game remain a PS3 exclusive, but game director Tetsuya Nomura (Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy VII) is developing another game outside of Versus called "One Goal Spirit."
"We won't change policy," said Hashimoto. "Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still a PlayStaion 3 exclusive."
Hashimoto also revealed that due to Nomura putting all his time and resources into Final Fantasy XIII, Noruma won't be able to devote much into "One Goal Spirit" as of yet.
We are hoping that Square Enix sticks to their word this time with Versus XIII, as the loss of Final Fantasy XIII’s exclusivity will undoubtedly add to the hardware sales that "could've been" for the PS3.

I ain't really a Final Fantasy type of guy actually I'm not even a JRPG kind of guy. But FFXIII going to the 360 hurt Sony bad in my opinion. Hopefully Sony can at least keep Versus XIII for all you Final Fantasy fans. Damn u Square bastard Sellouts!!!

how pathetic is the fact that Squarenix is official (up to now...) releasing more games for xbox360 than ps3?
Oh the f^^%ing irony...i have lost all respect.Mostly because they fu&^&$ing lied to me for 3 years and gradually they ripped all the -previously exclusive ps2 rpgs- from us.

Would it really matter at this point? I don't think keeping Versus an exclusive will change or improve the reaction that PS3 owners have had to Square's selling out. It's interesting how the 360 version won't be released in Japan because they know it won't sell there - the one place that the 360 needs it the most. In fact all that does is help the PS3 since FF will sell alot of PS3's there.

I could honestly care less about FF XIII going multiplatform, it's not like it's an xbox exclusive, you can still play it on your PS3. The genre isn't as mass appealing as GTA's is IMO and the loss of it's exclusivity didn't change much. Other than this FF XIII announcement, Microsoft didn't really bring anything cool to the table. Gears and Fable look good, no doubt, but other than that it was just a series of rip offs (lips, mii avvy's, eye toy rip offs from last gen...). When you think of it MS's aquirement of FF XII is another example of just stealing what other platforms have already made great.
All Sony has to do to save face here is be half as boring as MS.

HEY MORONS. Buy the game for you PS3 or they WILL think that Multiplatform is the way they have to go for EVERY GAME. If you keep up this ridiculous idea that these companies are being disloyal to you you're just going to hurt the industry YOURSELVES. These are BUISNESSES, they exist to MAKE MONEY, Have you read exactly how much these game cost? they have no choice but to go multiplatform in many cases. MGS4 stayed exculsive because Konami NEEDS kojima to continue making million sellers for their company.

When thinking about it., maybe those who play FFXIII on 360 will want to play Versus XIII on PS3; therefore, they will buy a PS3 to play it. You never know.

odium to be fair you do realize that JRPG's are born from tradition western RPG's. Most of the classes and mechanics have had origins in the west. The only big difference are the ideologies behind character development and storyline.

Thank you! People don't seem to realize that if they show they can turn more of a profit on the PS3 than the 360 the PS3 will win back exclusives. Has any 360 RPG hit over 1 million? If FFXIII makes a multi million seller on the PS3 and ends up selling less than a mill on the 360 then that would tell the entire story.

Yeah guys come on, just because 13 went multiplatform doesnt really mean this will hold the PS3 down. Sure we all know it would of increased console sales but dont you think sony knew this also??? Of course they did. Now this guy is saying we got versus and another exclusive and WE STILL GET TO PLAY 13. LOL think about it. I was stunned really when he walked back on stage in e3 but after thinking about it and reading this I am happy again

If you ask me, now i've had the day to brew about the whole situation it's not such a big deal. If it brings more FF goodness to the masses i'm happy and h3ll if you ask me i doubt SE will cut back on content just to suit x360, thats not nomura's style, nomura has always been, 110% in all his games. KH series, FFVII, FFVII:AC.

OMG I WANT VERSUS XIII! this game looks like its going to kick so much as$. Thank god its still only for PS3 as putting it on the XBOX would undoubtly make the PS3 version worse. Good call on giving the XBOX guys the crappy version in the Fabula Nova Crystallis, keep the good one exclusive :)

I was always more interested in this one than just FFXIII.... and I can bet that most people are now. But who knows right? Perhaps M$ approched them with a bag full of $$$, and everybody loves money! Is it too soon to call the $quare-Enix?.... sorry, just kidding. Still have some love for them.

Thank God, I really didn't care about FFXIII because it looks like it's going to be a garbage game anyways, if they stick to Versus being exclusive than it's all good to me.

if it's any consolation.. FFXIII was NOT directed by Nomura (who by the way, as the director for FFVII and FFX), and FFXIII Versus WAS. If One Goal Spirit is exclusively for the PS3 and Star Ocean 4 comes over, then I'll be satisfied.

My 2cents.
For those that say that it doesn't matter if it is on the 360 it is still comming out on the PS3. Square will now need to develop for the constraints of both systems and thus the game will suffer. They can work around some issues but in general it is obvious that they will NOT put in the effort to make the game better on the PS3. Thus this kind of sucks, but there isn't much Sony can do about that now. Except one thing (mentioned later)
Next is a hope. It is my belief that the 360 crowd is mostly made up of USA mountain dew drinking frat boys or gangster thugs from the cities. Those types generally don't buy games with characters that are guys but look like a 13 year old girl. I have to wonder what square will do if this game tanks on the 360? In my very general survey of the group of 360 owners I know, none of them plan on buying it. I know Microosft will personally buy a ton of copies, but I would have to laugh if this thing does under 200k for the first month on the 360 and over a million on the PS3.
So what can Sony do? Well they could lower the price of the PS3 down to $300 and make sure their console is the best one to play any cross platform games on. They could devote resources to making other Japanese RPGs such at White Knight... They could buy Square, but other than that they can't do much.

Folks, it's not about whether or not the game will still be a great game. It's about what the game could have been as a PS3 exclusive and will no longer be because they now have to cater to two different systems with their time and effort. Also, in case anyone trying to play this off forgot already, they said that both copies will be exactly the same, which pretty much concludes that the PS3 will get a 360 port.
So now Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 has gone from an excellent PS3 exclusive to a great PS3 port. Now how many of those have we had lately?

whatever we'll see, i just want to say one thing to people out there it isnt sony, it is the companies that choose to do this they are going to do what they want regardless so dont hate sony because of this hate squareenix and capcom they will soon find out that their games are not going to be of the caliber they once were do to multiplat and not just because they have to slim it down for the other console but because they have to spread resources and time just changing code to port it instead of making the inital stuff even better

shame on SE , FF series ware exclusive to the PS and now they just sold out like wh0res , srsly M$ are giving money to every new company to make exclusive games for their retarded console , for example - the fable 2, rockstar 2 anyone ? wha wha ....... PORTAL 2 ? WTF ? those games are 3$hitty exclusive , i dont think someone will be that stupid to do exclusive game for a $hitty console if not geting paid , its obvious. And now SE sold out , but they will notice the mistake they made , cuz you know , someone will upload it to the torrent sites and people will feel free to download it.
