Key designer Tetsuya Nomura has hinted to Dengeki PlayStation magazine that Square Enix will charge for the upcoming PlayStation 3 demo of Final Fantasy XIII.

The demo will be packaged with the Blu-ray release of Final Fantasy Advent Children: Complete next March, as detailed at the company's DKS3173 event, but according to Nomura it will later be made available separately for a price. Square Enix has refused to comment on the interview.

Pretty shameless, if you ask us. In Square Enix's defence, the demo is said to be a whopping 90 minutes long.

Thanks to FinalFantasy-XIII.net for the translation.

this is crazy square enix. from the days of the psx demos have always been free, why try to make things differently and infact difficult on us. PAY FOR A DEMO??? I really can't believe this. Please can someone tell me that this is just a dream. First of all ps3 loses ffxiii exclusive, and we have to pay in order to get the demo. Seriously i think i will sign out from all ffs as from now. So bye ffxiii and i hope things work out well when the game is released. I am crossed.

I agree with everyone who have said there not paying for a demo. In my opinion, demos are used to introduce a game and how the game is played. So it should always stay free. For all ff13 fans, don't feel disappointed just buy the game or rent it to see if its worth buying.

Doubtful I can add anything new because bravo my friends you have spoken well on the matter. That said, my two cents is forthcoming anyway, if there is even a chance devs look at boards they will by god read what I have to say!

EPIC FAIL #1 -FFXIII going to 360, the game will suffer and sales will be bleak. I'd be surprised if they recouped the lost sale from alienated Sony fans.

EPIC FAIL #2 -Pissing on us and telling us it's raining: Big News? This demo shouldve been out long ago, and how few people in America think that the 360 announcement was a GOOD thing? 360 fanboys are only happy because it delt a blow to Sony, not because they really want this game.

EPIC FAIL #3: Charging for a demo will (as we have seen here) further alienate consumers and the money grubbing practices will ultimately lead to less money. A lot of posters say this is sound business sense, but screwing over your sonsumer base has never been good for business in the long run.

Future EPIC FAIL: If one FF team has the 360 Dev console, they will hand it off to the other FF team and the second FF Versus is deemed possible on the 360 (Lets just shoot for 13 discs shall we?) MS will buy it out and steal another Exclusive, further pissing us off.

After all this goes down we can only hope Square learns their lesson, they wouldn't be charging for this demo if future revenue projections werent crappy.

Bottom Line: Gamers are now a huge demographic, and we are fickle, they are going to have to understand we won't be toyed with, or Square's bankruptcy and current business plan will be the next epic fail.

I have spoken. Whose with me?

I agree that it doesn't make much sense to charge for a demo. However, look at gt5 prologue! I payed $39 for that demo! It sounds like these 90 minutes might be a better deal than prologue was, only because I got bored of it after a week and went back to forza. Regardless, this will be a good game, why even offer a demo for a FF game.

Why would anybody pay for this? This is complete madness, for me even prologue is a rip-off, why pay for a half finished games when there are other excellent (complet) games to buy. At first i was looking forward to buying advent children on BD but this kind of news made me change my mind!

they are near bankrupt, but considering that the demo would have to be packaged on a blu ray..... if the cost was like $2 or something like that id be happy to pay it

    That certainly ruffled some feathers.

Time that SONY stepped in an told Square Enix that since they sold out to Microsoft and now this that they won't license any SE games or put anything on PSN on their behalf until they start appreciating the Sony and their fans.  Just such a shame that their graphics are so sweet otherwise this would have been a no brainer.
