Square purposely hides Star Ocean IV trailer?

We recently reported on the new Star Ocean IV trailer, which is impressive to say the least. However, it appears that Square-Enix initially did not want this trailer to be “leaked” to the general public just yet.
In actual fact, Square-Enix showed off the new trailer to a group of lucky eyes behind closed doors at the Tokyo Game show, which was the only possible way to view the trailer.
A second option was presented when the company placed the trailer online, but the catch was that you had to be an owner of the PSP Star Ocean 1, which was just recently released in Japan. Furthermore, a serial number from the title was required, though there are currently no plans to release the game in western territories.
Eager punters need not fear though, as the trailer has been leaked online through Youtube. What is more interesting was the work that Square-Enix was requiring people to go through just to view the trailer. Such a weird marketing scheme but that is how the industry works sometime.

@Glen24
your mom, jk
Its more of a strategic move than anything to release exclusive footage/trailer, to get people to buy their games (i.g. Star Ocean 1) As well as delays, you'd think the developers delay games to improve and make the game better, but stategy plays a big role in delays. selfish b@stards... -

Ohhh man. People hedging their bets on a PS3 exclusive are probably going to be in for a rude awakening. Just like many believed titles like acecombat, devil may cry and virtua fighter would not stray. The sad part is that even virtua fighter 5 was advertised as only for PS3. That should make the titles that don't even mention a platform more suspect.

You mean like how we see paramount trailers on the PSN even though they are HD-DVD exclusive?
Star ocean is a square enix game. If they want to use it to advertise about thier IP on any system it is their choice. It isn't up to sony to block their product promotions.
People need to step back and stop looking at things as if these game companies are mortal enemies that have absolute control over their domains. They are business and as far as money is concerned a competitor can turn into an ally at the drop of a dime.

Static I think your reaching but thats my opinion. No game companys aren't mortal enemies lol but they are competing for sales. I just don't think Sony would allow a 360 game advertised on the PSP. It makes no sense in terms of business. It seems like square is releasing only new IP's on the 360 (Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery). Another note is that Sony does own part of Sqeenix and they did help keep square afloat after they nearly went bankrupt from the FF Spirits movie. Also square continued FF on PS3 instead of moving it. Also the bulk of JRPG sales occur in Japan and 360 has only 3 games that have sold over 100k there. I'm just using logic here. But then again sometimes logic doesn't work (Tales of Vesperia going to 360 *scratches head*). I guess we'll just have to disagree to agree here but thats cool with me :)

You state your opinions well tom. And Honestly I never looked at it that way. It does seem like Squenix is only putting out new IP to the 360. Final Fantasy XI is an exception but then again it is pretty far removed from the series mainstay. This may very well be PS3 exclusive I just don't want to see people get upset if it turns out to be for the 360 and try to call for boycotts and petition all over the forums.

Why would you play ay of these gay games when you have not gay games like cod4, warhawk, socom...etc.
