The interest of a Final Fantasy VII remake for PlayStation 3 still remains inexorably imprinted on the minds of gamers across the globe since a tech demo was displayed at E3 2005 running off PS3 hardware.
As a matter of fact, fans have become so intrigued by the prospect of a remake that they have now had a petition started to show this interest all in one form.
Over the last couple of months, the rising number of signatures on the online petition for Square-Enix to re-make Final Fantasy VII have caught many people's attention. Now, having crossed the 20,000-signature mark, Square-Enix felt obliged to respond to the masses with the following email:
Thank you for contacting SQUARE ENIX Customer Support,
We hope this letter answers your questions.
Our parent company, SQUARE ENIX of Japan, has no current plans to create a sequel or remake to that particular title at this time. This is not to say that it will never happen, it’s just that their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects.
We hope this information has been of assistance.
Thanks,
Neil- SQUARE ENIX Customer Support
Even though this is something that has been confirmed time and time again, people know that Square-Enix is listening. The simple fact is that they already have too many projects to work on and complete, including five Final Fantasy games and another Kingdom Hearts title. Rest assured, however, that when these titles have finally been released that Square-Enix will be looking very closely at the proposal and may even consider it. For now, we all just have to wait a bit longer for FFVII on the PS3.
Stay tuned to PSU for more Final Fantasy news as it breaks.

I think the remake should be completed by X-mas 08. It will give Sony the win. That is their most critical challange, they will need the support.

hehe, I signed that petition a looooong time ago...
but this info is kinda useless to me, cause I already knew the reason why they haven't made the remake yet. The Final Fantasy 7 compilation is one of the biggest projects of Square-Enix, and it's surely not complete yet ;)
well, still waiting for crisis core :D

ha, why the heII are people so worked up over this? pop in the old game....like said, other titles are probably being slaved over...and IF we do see a remake, which I wouldn't be surprised of, than I would like to see some even more quality games be remade. i mean, if FFVII is being redone, where is the original Metal Gear Solid for PSone?

snake_eater:
the game is a decade old. do you really expect ppl to be quiet about it now? if you haven't played the game by now then you have done yourself an injustice.

How is FF7 the only SE title worthy of a remake? If they do remake it, yes I would buy it too..but I can think of a better SE title that can use a remake more than FF7. I would like to see how many people views on a remake would change if SE pulled a Crapcom and made the remake for both the PS3 and crapbox 3sh!tty...yes I am against it, but I wonder who all will still be waiting in line to get it.

People see it as a remake to a story they treasured and for some the way it should have looked from the begining thanks to the movie and later games in that universe. I have no doubt it'd look cool and have tons of added features and even more dramatic storytelling but the simple fact of the matter is that it'd cost more to make than the original and they want to consentrate on brand NEW universes rather than dig back into an old one that still hasnt exhausted it's potential for newer stories apparnetly sinec they've made more sequels for it than any other FF game so far. Personally I want a FF6 remake.

Ok they are already working on 5 (FIVE???!!!!!!!) Final Fantasy's and people are so obsessed as to demand ANOTHER one that has already been done????? Come on people!!!!!!! Grow up, you dont NEED 590,492 Final Fantasy titles, that is why everyone says "There are no games on the PS3" because they are all the same FF cr@p. I am not bashing FF or FF players, it is just that I feel that FF on Sony is starting to end up like Mario on the Wii, boring, overplayed, stale, overdone, and obsolete. If square is going to remake anything it should be the Parasite Eve games.
