Steinberg: Competition "punched themselves out of the fight"

Sony Computer Entertainment America’s Vice President of Product Marketing, Scott Steinberg, has said that the competition has already utilized its “big assets” in the on-going format war, and as a result, may have “punched themselves out of the fight."
Speaking to GamePro, Steinberg commented, "Our competition has already leveraged all their big assets in the first couple of years and may have punched themselves out of the fight.”
He went on to say how the victory of Blu-ray in the high definition format war has made a significant impact on PlayStation 3 sales, adding, "I think [the Blu-ray win] is a huge momentum builder for us and I think it is part of why we believe 2008 is going to be a monster year for the PS3.”
“When you incorporate games like Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, and Resistance 2...there will a great mixture of new IP and proven PlayStation brands," he said.
Steinberg also hinted at the possibility of introducing movie and music downloads on the PS3, stating, "We have entertainment leverage and that means music and movies. No other company has that ability or those assets. The PS3 is the hub....you can probably connect the dots. Stay tuned!"

I agree, xbox has nothing left to advertise with. Besides GoW2.
We'll see commercials like, Viva Pinata 2- only on Xbox 360!!!

Bad move. People like "Humble, humiliated Sony". Not "confident, arrogant Sony". Sure, I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING HE SAYS. But the masses are fickle, and they can be bringing more hate on themselves. That thing about entertainmant leverage, I WAS WONDERING WHEN THEY WERE GOING TO MENTION THAT. Sony/Columbia Picures is a studio powerhouse. Now, I know they want to avoid video downloads to help Blu-ray, but since most people WANT hardcopy, they should start downloads just to say "you can go either way", no harm done. It's easier and cheaper to upgrade your HDD on the PS3, so they should out-download the 360. But for boxing fans, that analogy is perfect. The Xbox really did just explode onto the scene, but what are they all waiting for now? Look at us. WE ARE GOING CRAZY WAITING FOR ALL KINDS OF (delayed) STUFF, LOL! Just joking (sorta...).

lol u guys would not beleive the wars that this is sturring up on gamepro, ill make why i have no plans and in no way am affected by the 360 clear, even though people dont care, ok here goes, when i look a 360 i dont feel any want to accuire one, i just feel like i dont need it, and then the games, GOW2 mass affect 2 too human, i just watched trilers for them, and i didnt feel like i wat them, i just didnt care, they didnt appeal to me, too human looked too straitforward GOW 2 looked.....weird and mass affec 2 looked pointless slow and boring, + i simply cant afford to replace a 360 if it RROD'S, i cant even afford to keep up with the ps3 games that re out, but on;y cuz of where i cuurently live, and if i had a 360 and was living somwhere else, it would shange to, i cant afford to buy games for 2 consoles, so......yeah, thas just my 2 cents.

how come in Every press release a lame Microsoft employee comes out and talks about GTA 4 has if its a exclusive and Gears of war 1.5 with upgraded graphics wow Bet £100 that videos and music downloads is on the new store

I know alot of people love thier Xbox but honestly nothing would make me happier than to see it next to Dreamcast in the hall of shame. Not because I'm a fanboy because I'm not; because MS doesn't focus on quality to the extent I expect when dropping $ on a game console.

I do agree with what he is saying but Sony, i know your confident that your going to win put blurrting out stuff like this will only get you bad critism. Microsoft will, probably come out with a negative responce that will cause trouble. But, Microsoft have a hard year in 2008. No proper exclusive games except for Gears of War 2, maybe Fable 2, but its pretty average when conpared to other RPG's. but they both to go against Resistance 2, Killzone 2 etc..

i really hope to see music/movie downloads as well. and when Steinberg said "No other company has that ability", at first i didnt understand and thought he meant no other CONSOLE has that ability. I was like duh 360 has it. but re-read it and hes right. there's Sony Picture, Sony BMG. so PS3 def has good opportunity for providing music and movie downloads. do u see Microsoft Pictures? LOL no!
btw, i love how he states that Gran Turismo 5 and Little Big Planet are all in for this year. we already heard confirmation GT5 wasnt coming till atleast early '09. As for LBP, they "expect" Q4 this year. who knows.

I like GamePro, they always seem unbias in their reviews, and when they do specific console articles they make them worth reading. If this is what they say, it only proves how smart they are!

Gears 2 and Fable 2 are pillars in a flood of PS3 brands. They may stand for a while but they will eventually erode down.
Also, I guess UT3 is coming to the 360 in May.
