Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) boss Kazuo Hirai has revealed the platform holder is on track to shift 15 million PlayStation 3’s during the current fiscal year, before claiming that 80 percent of all hardware sold is hooked up to PlayStation Network.
Speaking with the chaps at Reuters, Hirai commented, “As of the end of August, sales look a bit better than we expected.”
The executive’s claims that 80 percent of all PS3s sold are connected to PSN would put the amount at roughly 30.48 million hooked up to Sony’s online service, given that PS3 has shifted in the region of 38.1 million units globally.
Elsewhere, Hirai said that the firm currently has no plans to amalgamate PlayStation Network with its Qriocity network, an online movie service in North America that’s poised to make the transition to European markets.
He also added that PSP won’t be getting the 3D treatment anytime soon, as the technology is not currently advanced enough:
“We want consumers to enjoy 3D in the best possible environment,” he said. “At this stage, this is only possible on the big screen, with glasses.”
