Katsuhiro Harada, director of upcoming Namco Bandai brawler Tekken 6, has expressed his delight over the success of Capcom’s Street Fighter IV, having previously been disappointed over the decline of the venerable franchise in the arcades.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com, Harada commented, “I’ve been a fan of Street Fighter in general, and I was kind of sad to see it die out in the arcades,” adding, “So I was very happy to see it make a comeback – especially with that new look it returned with while staying true to the original formula. I believe a lot of fans were very happy with that.”

He went on to highlight the success of the game in North America alongside veteran beat ‘em ups Mortal Kombat and Soul Calibur, which lead to somewhat of a global resurgence in popularity of the genre.

“Although it wasn’t a huge success in Japanese arcades, it was kind of good to see that come on top in several continents, doing particularly well in America. And also Soul Calibur IV and Mortal Kombat did really well in the US, so there was an overall effect of several successful fighting games coming together.”

Tekken 6 will be hitting stores shelves across North America on October 27. A European release date has yet to be announced.

It's hard to figure Street Fighter fans who stuck it out through SF III.  That was just weird.  I know about trying new things, but the makers of Virtua Fighter and Tekken did it right: EXPAND THE ROSTER.  Don't dump just about everyone and add a bunch of misfits.

While I'll be picking up SF VI at some point, I consider VF and Tekken to be better games, personally.  Oh, and Soul Caliber.  But welcome back Street Fighter.

Yeah SF4 is great, evactly what i wanted, a modern day SF2. I've played a couple of the tekken games but never got into them as much, put off by the amount of moves but i may pick this up.

look at hwarang in tekken who has about 400 moves  :)  you may not know themall or need to know them but you get to choose the best moves that suit your style

so i think imma return street fighter casue i didnt get into it that much .

i like tekken, BUT i love street fighter!! grew up playing it and will always be top of my list. The genre itself just gets old quick nice to beat on your friends a bit then that's it move along nothing to see here. pop in something else.

I like the politeness of Katsuhiro Harada. This is share character.

Other fighting games always pave a way to succes if you are the best.

I got bored of SF4, it doesnt have the hold the previous street fighters have on me.

I still play Tekken 5:DR, never gets old for me.

I think Tekken 6 will fail. Street Fighter and Soul Calibur has gained som momentum and I think this will affect the Tekken 6 sales.
