Summary

The Bottom Line: The Club may or may not resonate with you, it depends entirely on what type of gamer you are. If always trying to top the leaderboards, this is certaintly the title for you; if not, you may want to try it out before you buy.

We like

  • Fantastic visuals
  • Customizable playlists
  • Plethora of entertaining online modes

We dislike

  • Repetitive nature of the Tournament
  • No headset support
  • No stat tracking for online play

(continued from previous page) ...bounce while sprinting separate this game from the masses. Bizzare has also managed to implement assorted aspects of the visuals into the gameplay. For example, sniper rifles -- which are awesome in The Club by the way -- emit a visible laser trail where they’re being aimed. Essentially, if you see one near you, get the hell out of the way. It’s aspects like this that really enhance the multiplayer experience.

Even facets of the audio give some telltale warnings of when you’ve got to bolt. When you hear that metal grind of a chaingun warming up, it’s time to leave. The rest of the sound is acceptable. Music keeps the intensity up, but some gunshots seem underpowered. Overall, it’s a mixed bag.

The Club seeks to be original. It is, but that doesn’t mean it’s a masterpiece. What accounts for that originality is a system, which in and of itself is well-executed, but often generates recurring experiences throughout the majority of the game. If you’re a gamer that always seeks to have the highest score, this game is definitely for you. If not, The Club is still fun, but lacks enough freshness outside of its combo system to warrant greatness.

I second all of this. I didnt like the demo very much. Maybe in 2 or 3 years if it gets a $20 price tag.

This is one of those old school games, that is so addicting. It probably does not appeal to those gamers that need a major storyline to push on. I downloaded the demo and I was hooked.

Yeah Bengal, that's exactly my thoughts.  An "old school" feel.  Like when you'd goto the arcade and pop in quarter after quarter for this same style of play.

Really good game to play in 4 players splitscreen... been playing with friends until a few minutes ago, it's really fun... we couldn't stop laughing.

People that say it sucks it's because they played the single player, and not with 3 other friends in splitscreen.

I downloaded the demo and hated it, although 2-player was quiet fun I have to say. But not the sort of game i'd go out and buy now. Also, why are you only reviewing it now? It was out ages now.

Story driven games like MGS have spoiled me when it comes to arcade type of games. I just can't get into them anymore. I need a terrific story when I'm playing a game.

Wow, I kind of liked the game demo. After reading just the list of CONS, I don't want to even consider buying it.

dreadful. it wishes it had an old school feel. then it would at least have something going for it. rather play narc or joust. those are truly old school.
